Interesting programme on TV about sink holes in Florida tonight, where whole houses have disappeared into the ground, and seeing that car swallowed by a sink hole in High Wycombe, Bucks in the news. With all this rain it makes you wonder how many more holes will appear in areas with chalk or limestone in this country too, though the High Wycombe property was built over old chalk mines, which doesn't help. Landslips much more of a problem with the continuous rain, railways seem particularly prone recently in the southeast.

Yes I watched it ( and posted elsewhere about it too ) good program.

Hopefully that low will become a nice still night with no rain either. At least at Heathrow whilst my plane is taking off at 9pm!

I hate taking off , it's the worse part of flying.

hi tadpole

this is one weather set up i hate

because if the charts amend the low either south or north it will completely change

what is predicted

i think model chaos is the best wording at present

I'm beginning to wonder if the front will even hit this corner, it looks like the tail end will either just skirt the eastern tip, or even miss to the north slightly. However the blob behind it might do something.

Technically landing is the most dangerous part of the flight.....during take off the plane flies at almost full power whereas during the final approach it flies with a very small amount of power thus the plane is more vulnerable to external forces such as storms or winds etc.

Statistically most crashes occur during the first 3 and last 8 minutes of the flight, most of them during landing which is basically a controlled crash so actually it's the landing you should be worried about....hope this helps Posted Image

Well hopefully we won't have all got sucked down a sink hole during the night, sweet dreams y'all  Posted Image x

Important warning for the South West this week Pulled from twitter. You would think wind and rain would be enough.

Be #floodaware near the coast and be careful #Cornwall facing biggest waves in the world this week

Have to say I am concerned exactly how badly this will impact on SE coastal areas given that "the largest waves ever to hit Cornwall" are forecast for wednesday. The Watering Hole in Perranporth are now stripping out the bar before the sea does it for them

https://twitter.com/W_hole_Cornwall/status/430408131286278145/photo/1/large?utm_source=fb&utm_medium=fb&utm_campaign=W_hole_Cornwall&utm_content=430408131286278145

I assume the Environment Agency will issue coastal warnings some time tomorrow.

Ladies and gentleman - I think some very positive vibes are required for our south Western friends and neighbours....in particular Cornwall and the Watering Hole at Perranporth

xxxx

Edit: Here is their facebook page for the full story - some dramatic piccies!

I read the news today oh, boyFour thousand holes in Blackburn, LancashireAnd though the holes were rather smallThey had to count them allNow they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hallI'd love to turn you on....

I used to live near High Wycombe and it was where the 18/19th Century aristos the Dashwoods had their Hell Fire Club - you go down to this grotto and into a maze of caves and caverns which is where it used to meet. Perhaps that house was built on one of them.

Morning, decent start to the day here. Looks like a good day before it all goes downhill for the rest of the week.

Morning all, I don't we restart yesterday discussion, but I would like to be off topic for 1 last time, and just try to explain why I have decided to withdraw my off subject posts.I have a problem in continuing to post, as I agree with the moderators, this is a weather forum, which was specifically set up for weather enthusiasts. My problem is that I love the weather but have no technical ability, therefore if I want to get involve in the community I can only do so by going off topic. Yes, I know, I could go to the learning section and read up, but I am to old, to tired and frankly to engross in my work and running is as dome will know a 24 hour process, hence the reason why I post early in the morning, before the dreaded email and phone calls start. So therefore in my opinion its better for me not to post other than weather related items.People will say why not use the chat room, and to be fair I should, but I have been on here for a good number of years, and I am properly set in my ways, and any way the few times I have been in there I been lonely as its only me :-). With the SE thread I feel rightly or wrongly that I am known and was understood by the majority. However if as the moderators feel they want the SE thread to remain on topic, then I agree with them, unfortunately you cannot have me sprouting my dribble, whilst other people are getting into trouble for their off topic comments, that ain't fair, therefore as I said, I will no longer go off topic.I hope this explain my comments last night and I didn't want people to think that I had thrown my toys out of the pram, because if I had people would still be ducking now.Have a nice dayOh and its sunny and cloud free in dirty Dartford.RegardsKerry

Fair play son, it does not take much though to learn the very basic charts, you should actually invest some time into reading up on them. Even if you spent 30 mins a day when travelling into work to read weather books ETC to gain more knowledge. that's still 1 1/2 hours a week of learning... Pretty much majority on here are self taught some lucky peeps got to go to uni ETC and study it.. Wish I had the chance too...
