My interpretation of the windfield currently, everything due to shift eastwards as the LLC moves NE across southern Scotland in the coming hours ahead.

There's probably precip to the SW of what is showing in Ireland, Shannon radar is out.

Worst wind so far this winter. Periods of sunshine then cloud but always very strong wind with frightening gusts. Bit worried about our chimney now! Raining again.

As far as I understand it, between about 6.00 pm and 10.00 pm, worst in the west, (Pennines especially - not great form my perspective !). I do wonder though if the wind turns more westerly, given it's forecasted strength, whether any lee waves might be formed.

Definitely the strongest storm this winter here and I'm in relatively quiet Essex but still winds gusting well in excess of 50-60mph I'd say the rain is being driven sideways like you see in those hurricane movies lol  Posted Image  Quite scary at times still I'm so grateful that I'm not in that RED zone where the 100mph winds are predicted.

100 mph gusts in Ireland and some parts only 3mph amazing the difference on one island !...

The 3mph must been in the calm centre (core) or the EYE of the storm if you will...

This is the conditions that spawn our, not too infrequent, " Mini Tornadoes" ( hate that term) as gusts roll off the tops and down into the valley. When such a 'roll' of wind gets turned on end by hitting the joining valleys ( at 90 degrees to the main valley) you get these violent vortex winds as the 'roll' stand on it's end.

Doesn't really look like a tornado, but interesting pic nonetheless

Aye G-W, not looking forward to the next 8 hours at all. I really hoped I'd never experience one of those 'one in fifty years' wind events whilst I lived up here, but this one might unfortunately deliver it.

It looks like a hail shaft to me, there could well have been rotation but it doesn't look tornadic from that image. Nice though!

Yes, lee waves are quite common whenever the wind is westerly. We in the Vale of York often record very high wind speeds even though we're supposed to be sheltered and not exposed at all.

It would depend on the temperature profile up to about 2000ft above the hill tops around you. If the air is unstable well above those then probably no if there is a stable layer within that zone, maybe within 5000ft, then the probability would exist.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
