Driving across the Menai bridge was frightening a high pitch squeal as the wind ripped across was something I won't forget. Now back on A55 heading east. Carnage in terms of queues around the bridges and only going to get worse in rush hour. Not bad getting off Island to be fair awful getting on though

Here in Weston-super-Mare it had died down a fair bit but seems to have picked up again in the past ten minutes! Had a brief rain shower and the wind now appears as bad as it was at 3pm! Mad.!!

Biggest gust I've recorded so far this afternoon in Newark is 34.9mph (around an hour ago).

Died down for a bit now with semi-clear skies but wind seems to be picking up a bit again.

Another record wave height set in South of Co.Cork

 

Kinsale Energy Gas Platform recorded a maximum wave height of 25 metres this afternoon (Wednesday 12th February).Apart from being a record at that location, it is also the highest maximum wave height recorded in Irish coastal waters (the previous record being 23.4 metres at the M4 buoy off the Northwest coast).

Any more news or views about Friday?

At the moment I'm guessing same strength as today in the south (70-80 mph with the odd gust higher), not as strong for Wales/Midlands, maybe 60-70mph on coasts and 50 inland. I think rain will be a bigger issue on Friday.On today's storm, as bad as anything this winter here, officially 69mph in Solent but there were 3 or 4 tremendous gusts which I thought were more like 80mph or even more.I'm hearing stories from Wales of roofs being blown off buildings and schools, I'm sure there'll be endless stories to emerge from this, not that it's over yet for N. England.

Ensembles from 12z are out and its awful perts 3,4,5,7,8, 11 and 19 all have as strong or stronger winds as today on Friday night/Saturday morning but further south

Pleading with friend to come home early from work. She's a delivery driver and has just text to say she's been involved in an accident. Says she's ok though. Strongest winds for a few years here and there's that eerie sound of sirens around, must be a few fallen trees around the place.

N & NW England, the wind will pick markedly over the next few hours with a peak later this evening and also the southern fringes of Scotland adjacent to the Irish Sea and parts of N Ireland the fun and games are yet to start.

Doesn't say 'State Of Emergency' but it does say 'Kilkenny County Council have declared a major emergency'. Probably the same thing.

Few trees down here, mainly small ones, but there are sirens going off here too, it's very wild for the middle midlands and the wind's getting worse!! :-(

It's weird to think these winds are raging about in the west and yet here on the NE coast it's nice and calm - well calm for this area anyway.  Stay safe people and do not go out unless you really have to, your life is worth more than a fascination with the weather. If you can though keep the reports coming in from a safe place!

Crew rail station has now closed?

Is it just me or do the gusts just come from absolutely nowhere? It was calm as anything then of all sudden BOOM. Newcastle Upon Tyne

 

 

Further east from you there's hardly anything - which part of the city you in?
