Currently sat in stationary traffic on A90 just south of Forfar (accident?). Got a flash of lightening in heavy snow at Stonehaven earlier and very heavy snow from there south with good wet snow deposits on road. Eased off a bit for now and hopefully we'll get moving again soon.

Been a bit poorly the last few days so just watching the weather out the windows.  Rain & more rain here, lashing in from the firth this evening.  The catflap's clacking in the wind which is a fair sign of crap weather.

I took my wife down to Braemar at lunchtime today from Glenshee so she could get a scone. There was virtually no snow at village level. Here is the snowgate webcam now. Usually it shows the road?

Well it was an "interesting" journey last night. I expected lots of wind and rain, with some sleet thrown in and maybe a bit of wet snow. It started raining heavily as we negotiated the back roads around Aberdeen but changed to wet snow just north of Stonehaven. From there all the way to Forfar it was falling as snow or wet snow with a wicked cross wind at times. The wife was driving but at times both of us were concentrating on finding the road and at one point we were down to 25mph. Stopped fro a break at McDonakds at Forfar where there must have been a good 3-4cm of slush in the car park. After that we had 15mins stationery as the police had closed the road for some reason that wasn't obvious when we got going again.

From Dundee onwards it was much easier with just some rain, surface water and a bit more snow on the M90 around Glenfarg. Normally, including a stop, it would take us 3.5hrs but it took nearer 5 yesterday and if we'd thought it would be that bad we'd have waited until this morning.

Anyway, off into Edinburgh this morning with our son. On the train!

P.s. NorthernRab, if the A90 was anything to go by the you made the right decision avoiding the A9 last night.

Nice to see that some peeps have at least had some snow. It's been a morning of sunny showers with intervals and I think that's how it will stay the rest of the weekend. So the snow is a long way from Skye. Currently 5c with a light breeze.

Morning all, a bit cloudy but a huge improvement on last night. 5c here in very light winds.

Just looking at some stats and noticed Glasgow Bishopton has recorded just two air frosts this winter (Dec, Jan, Feb to date) with an absolute minimum of -0.1c! Yet the mean Jan max at the same location was 0.2c below average (6.5c). Illustrates nicely how much temps have been stuck in the low/mid single digits (and hence all the hill/mountain snow).

Strangely I was just looking at the same thing there. I could only find 2 double digit days. The persistence of this low pressure dominated pattern this winter has been remarkable.

Well, it's a rank day here today, grey, overcast, steady rain. No remnants of any of the brief snow from last night. Chilly outside.

Pretty miserable fayre.

Thought this was good though, a wee picture from the mountains. If anyone is at Glenshee and wondering why they cannot get a signal.

The re-analysis plots for year to date paints an ugly picture of this Winter to date from the turn of the year.

ECM continues with newspaper front page satellite type runs at 144. Endless procession continues.

From ski Scotland this report re Cairngorm. Amazing depths.

All runs have amazing amounts of snow. Snow depth upper slopes Average 900 CM Middle slopes Average 500 CM Lower slopes Average 100 CM

Not quite as much at Glenshee but hut at top of Cairnwell said to be 20 feet below surface.

Just been trawling for news of southern devastation. I came up with some waves going over a bridge (Newlyn, Cornwall, nice video), a few trees blown over in various places, a blown over trampoline, and, most shockingly, a flooded beach Posted Image . Oh, and the police are investigating a hole in the ground in Hemel Hempstead Posted Image  - just one hole, not in Blackburn. They have been asked to stop digging but are reported to want to get to the bottom of it.  And still endless sniping about climate change from all sides that makes everyone look really silly.

All the snow (slush!) gone and no wonder with a maximum of 8.3C today. Glorious sunshine this afternoon.
