The one and only real notable thing about the weather here today ..... 0mm of rain (either that or my rain gauge has given up in protest at being overworked since it was installed the week after Xmas).

From Wednesday, not something you see everyday… The new PB600 winch cat winching the Cliffhanger Chairlift line (clue is the name for those unfamiliar with the mountain)!

I know nothing of skiing, but this pic is ace! I had never heard of a winch cat but it looks pretty amazing… thanks!

Tomorrow mornings little feature seems to be heading up the west of Scotland instead of east on the latest NMM. Or perhaps it's my bleary eyes being unable to cope. Either way it'll be an interesting weekend for some and a soggy weekend for most Posted Image My best tip for anyone who has a car and has the time is to head to the nearest hills Posted Image

If anyone's thinking of heading up, mind to check the avalanche forecasts first.  It's very dangerous just now: http://sais.gov.uk/

I must be getting old… my plan for the weekend is to assume there'll be no snow in Embra Sth and to stay at home, and enjoy seeing photos of the snow elsewhere…

It does look like parts of Fife and the central belt will miss some of the worst (or best) of the weather today courtesy of shelter from the west. Hope the Ochils and the lomonds get a pasting, would like to sledge at least once this winter!

Nothing I've seen suggests I'll see any snow here, and taking the car and heading to the hills might not be terribly enjoyable given the wind forecasts.

At 8am this morning at home it was 5.1/3.5C, windy, lots of low grey cloud and damp feeling (0.5mm on the rain gauge since midnight). Seemed to get windier as I drove to work and go nearer the coast with a shower of "heavy drizzle" as I hit Dyce.

Weather in SW Ireland this morning is absolutely wild! Some serious intensity to the rain and a right old wind blowing! Home tonight so placing all my hope on something coming together tomorrow for a bit of snow. Looks unlikely though.

Too warm for snow now and the temperatures last night only dipped to about 1c. Will be rain today and have to wait to see what happens this evening that's our best chance. Already raining in Glasgow.

The shower line currently piling into the East  coast is pretty intense and even looked a little wintry in a very heavy burst. Currently looks like nighttime outside it's that dark.

No early snow prospects here either with a minimum of 2.0C and currently 4.5C/2.8C. I expect some sleet or perhaps wet snow overnight though.

Speaking of glimmers of hope - the latest NetWeather snow radar android app thingy has pink/snow echoes approaching the Pentland Hills, SW Edinburgh. Probably nothing but it's the closest a pink echo has got to my house all winter LOL

Aye - I'm clutching desperately at an 0.2 C drop in the past hour!

Now 3 C.

Well, at least the ski resorts are taking a pounding.
