Yay - First clap of thunder this year at approx 9pm tonight.....didn't see any lightning though....lucky really given I was stuck in a Parish Council meeting at the time and there was enough hot air in the room for spontaneous combustion to occur Posted ImagePosted Image

You know that something is wrong when places in Georgia, South/North Carolina are getting up to a foot of snow!Considering they have the gulf of Mexico as a huge influence, why cant we muster that sort of snow up?Secondly I have heard more thunder and seen heavier rain this January then I did all off last year! Some places in Mississippi haven't seen snow in over 20 years and they are getting 3/4 inches. Also as I child I dont remember snow up until i was 9/10 years old but plenty of storms are we entering a new phase of weather?PS I hate this current set up it feels like permanent early spring.

Morning all, hope everyone woke up feeling fit and well, or in my case well. For a change a I can actually confirm the weather, its wet and raining, this magnificent feat was achieved by the dubious method of lamppost watching, the said lamppost had not been used this year for weather watch as the climatic conditions have not been conducive.

Hope you have notice an improvement in my comprehension today as Stun12 remarks associating me with the legal eagle the good and great Mr Abruzzi Spur and also the betting fella who goes by the rather dodgy nickname of Kentish CZ , made me think that my standards might have slipped, to be associated with a bookmaker is bad enough, but a barrister could it be more worring, next I will be associated with an estate angent or one of those darn bank managers, how low have I slipped old boy.

Cor blimey mate I think I might 'ave to send the lads round, to duff you up, oh blow it I knew it wouldn't last. Anyway that enough of that malarkey, I would like to thank two aforementioned gentlemen plus Chris Mantle for all their efforts in producing such a fine cup competition as the snow cup, I am sure if it isn't used this year, then next year will be the year.

Hope you all have a good day, I won't I got to much work to do, write a report do 2 quotes, and arrange 2 interviews, no doubt it will get done, but at the moment I am not certain how, just remembered I got to prepare for the visit tomorrow of that lowest of the low creature known as the small business bank manager, be interesting to watch him sliver under the door. What the chances of an increase in the over draught if he's interested in the weather and reads this? Think I have managed to insult all professions so off to work.

Thanks CK, maybe would have a forum outing to one of your clients and sit in their freezer and talk about how the snow depth cup could have worked out.  If the bank manager is so good with over draughts, maybe he could slip one on from the east for a weekPosted Image

Sorry on a weather related note, not raining and about 5.3c here.

Bjaykent, on a very serious not weather related (other than I can design a snow machine) I could and would double the size of my company, employ around 20 more people, if and its a bloody big if, I had the backing of the bank, yes, I would be looking for what most people would think is a lot of money, but in reality its less than a cost of a nice house. But to get this its impossible, I got orders amounting to just shy of £6million (that's how much we to do, to do to break even), I got promises from major blue chip company's who are in the footsie 250 for another £10 million to be completed by the end of April 2015, that's without the £20million pounds worth of outstanding quotes some of which we will get. Will we get the money to expand, no, of course not. Am I frustrated, yes, will I be nice and polite to the bank manager, doubt it.

Will be able to do the above work, most probably yes, but at a much reduce profit margin as we will have to use specialised contract labour at rates I don't want to pay, it will cost us more than the small house above, and I won't have that much needed specialised knowledge in my company for future use. A very frustrated owner of a successful company, who ploughs millions into the economy and gets sod all back.

Sorry about the rant, but feel better now I got that off my chest, must admit that days like today and tomorrow, really make me feel like giving up and shutting the company down, but I known and like my employees for to long to do that, plus i can't afford to as all the money is being reinvested back into the company, are we idiots, I let you decide.

Chris, I went to one yesterday, a -25c freezer, it was raining hard when we arrived, so put on my nice new coat, and hi-vis jacket toetectors etc., and went straight inside, when the doors opened, you could see the steam entering the store, go into the bit that makes the cold air and ice crystal where produced. Anyway we where wandering around in there for about a quarter of an hour, and as usual we stood about and had a chat about things, might I just say what a stupid idea that was.nour toetectors froze to the floor, and it was a right bugger to move them. Anyway when we did, it was like watching Bambi on ice, people where sliding in all directions, someone grab my arm for support and snapped the coat sleeve off which had frozen and became brittle. Made me laugh anyway.

Still raining out :-)

Exactly the same situation here CK, throughout the 'double dip recession' we have continued to grow and the government claims that they want banks to help small and medium size businesses. We struggle to increase our overdraft, let alone get competitive loans to invest in new machinery and staff. I hope to conclude my big US contract (getting closer at least) in the next week or so and we are going to have to effectively double the size of the company, surely you'd think the bank would want help out a business increasing employment and exporting? Not a bit of it!

On the topic of weather for today:

Coast, I pleased you gave an update on your company, I was wondering as I knew you was near to be successful in your bid for a large contract, I wish you luck. With all the big orders I'm talking about above, we also get the maintenance for those as well and some you are talking of over a £100k per year, which is bread and butter to me.

Better get on subject. Raining.

19.2mm of rain overnight and some of that was hail and sleet on the way home. Next low cruises in off The Atlantic late Friday and surprise, surprise, more rain:

Morning all horrible morning again.... Enjoyed reading the above posts from Coast & CK I do find this govt confusing. They have screwed the housing again by encouraging banks to lend at 95% mortgages again and won't demand banks lend to successful small to medium sized businesses as you two obviously are. With Rbs loosing 8bn we r going to struggle to overcome this negativity of lending

Yellow warning of Rain

post-6667-0-05867100-1390983192_thumb.jp

Issued at:
1236 on Tue 28 Jan 2014

Valid from:
0800 on Fri 31 Jan 2014

Valid to:
0300 on Sat 1 Feb 2014

A further area of heavy rain will spread eastwards across the UK on Friday, clearing the southeast of England during the early hours of Saturday. 20-30 mm of rain will fall quite widely, with around 40 mm on some high ground in the southwest of England and south Wales. The heavy rain will be accompanied by strong to gale force winds. The public should be aware of possible disruption, primarily due to further flooding, chiefly in areas already, or recently, affected. Another very deep area of low pressure will spread heavy rain and strong to gale force winds eastwards across the UK during Friday, before the associated frontal systems clear the southeast of England during the early hours of Saturday. Following recent wet weather, the areas highlighted have saturated ground and are particularly sensitive to further heavy rain.

Off to southend in this miserable weather, looks like this band of rain is going to be sticking around for a while!

At least until this front dives off East:

Temperature has dropped to 3.1c, hopefully we should see some wet snow out of this. Might be our only chance this winter.

Morning all. :)

Light rain here at the moment. All in all grim and grizzly.

To cheer myself up yesterday evening, I thought I'd read about the Black Death - actually there was an article on the BBC news page about modern day bubonic plague and I clicked a couple of links. :D

I found this link relating to mediaeval graffiti in a church in Hertfordshire, mostly describing the ravages of the Black Death.

http://www.stmarysashwell.org.uk/church/graffiti/decode.htm

What caught my eye though, was the reference to the great storm in 1361 at the end. This would probably have been one of the two worst windstorms, in our area, in the last millennium (the other being the Defoe storm of 1703) The storm referenced was known as St. Maury's (or Maurus) Wind over Ireland and England and the Grote Mandrenke (great drowning of men) in the Low Countries and Germany, on 15/16th January 1362. (the 1361 / 1362 discrepancy is likely due to years starting on a different date in an old style of recording) - actually 15/16 January was recorded in the Julian Calendar, so wouldn't be the same date today. Posted Image

It must have felt like the end of the World was nigh for the scriber. The Black Death, followed by that, must have made people think that Armageddon was imminent. I might have to pop in and see that graffiti when I'm next close to that Church - near Baldock. :)

Mum is now going to speak to the people behind my house who own the lake as the water has risen a good few inchs and is now creeping up the back garden..

It is so so high it's burst it's banks, luckily behind my house is a bank about 8 feet high that it can't get through (im sure if it was high enough it would begin to seep through the ground?)

But the bank does not extend far enough down and the water is flooding through where the bank ends... I have never seen it like this and I have lived at my house for over 10 years now... Anymore rain and I fear my shed will be flooded (which has electrics) and the bottom of my garden..

You see of these pictures of flooding and say to your self "well, I can't be at risk the nearest river is a good half mile away".. I never took into account lakes over flowing! I am actually slightly concerned now...

Mornin each. As everyone else is reporting.....it's dank and murky here in deepest Ippy. Soon, I can imagine foreign tourists will be told not to travel to the UK between December and February as it's the rainy season. :)
