Looking at the charts available, I suspect the northern home counties, including Beds and Cambs have the best chance.

I think it's worth emphasising that both GFS and NMM have downgraded snow risk for tonight.

Euro4 awaited.

This is due to the positioning of the current front. Temps will go down in a few hours

You can see the cold Air coming behind the Mild Front from map below. Confirmation by Ian Fergusson as well that it is snowing quite heavy Cinderford near Gloucester, and Stroud So radar will be best for later.

Afternoon all

A dry start to the day in Brighton but by 10am the rain and wind had arrived and it was pretty bleak. Home by lunchtime and the rain here was steady, nothing too dramatic, but the effect of yesterday's squall was apparent in the garden with chairs blown over and the outdoor folded up table tennis table definitely not where we had left it.

The temperature is now at 5.1c having been as high as 8.8c a couple of hours ago.

I can't make head nor tail out of the goings on in the MOD thread at the moment other than the mood seems downbeat if it's cold and snow you are after.

Latest from our council gritters is

There is an increasing risk of showers turning to sleet or wet snow this evening. Heaviest showers expected between 3am and 5am further isolated showers follow this, these light and turning back to rain.

Ps Seems to be evaporative cooling involved for the snow.

Think we will need to be up early if I want to see any white stuff.

BBC news weather just now (summarised): chance of some wintriness in showers tonight but back to sleet then rain during tomorrow. Tuesday, Wednesday, rain around. Turning colder after that, winds east or northeast, a lot of cloud around, 6c on the graphics, mostly dry. 'More details on Countryfile' was the sign off - can't imagine that forecast will say anything different in about 90 minutes time!
