Dorsetbred and Erbyskerby backing up the NIMBY score to 10 now BUT Jtay is very confident (good to see) and gains a 1 for the IMBY mob. So to clarify, that's 10 for elsewhere and a 1 for IMBYs.

Ooh I know we are on the subject of snow but this caught my eye... hmmm .. (warning the word Mini Tornado is used). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-25902371

Thanks PB, it is interesting that tornadoes were mentioned in this report as I said the following in my status updates in response to wimblettben yesterday.

Impressive stuff Ben. Several unconfirmed reports around my way up into Oxfordshire of people being swept of their feet and a potential tornado near Lambourne way as I understand.

temp 3.1C

dew point 0.8C

next shower band coming in from the west........

Bit of wet snow in that shower so technically we have had something white fall out the sky.

temp dropped 2.3C and dew point to -1.0C in that shower.

looking at my Radar App,all the showers over Southern Ireland and Wales, turning increasingly to snow in the last hour, also some showers pepping up from nowhere in mid wales, must be very unstable, so no reason to think that can't happen down here, in what appears to be a bit of a lull atm.

Snow Princetown think the level is around 250 metres as rain and hail here

Just had the first shower of the night.... Bit of sleet, but the cars are covered! Currently 1.5c here.

BBC weather removed my snow for tonight. Now the only hope i have is that graphics on the 21:00

Ignore their forecasts, i remember December 2010 when Dereck Brockway on BBC Wales stated "very little snow in the cardiff area" - 24 hours later around a foot of level snow on the ground. Best bet is to just look outside and use the radars.

Great to hear some peeps getting some wintry stuff over the last couple of hours, stark contrast to the model output discussion where its almost wrist slitting time for coldies,as we all know that can change and as a cold lover hope it does to give at least a decent taste of winter....Posted Image  instead of endless wind and rain.

Had a heavy snow shower in Stroud about an hour or so ago. Was up the Lodge (pub) on the common (200 meters asl). We had a flash of lightning followed by a really squally wind and about 30 mins of moderate wetish snow. First flakes of the winter for me, about time!!

Yes looks like my earlier fears may be a tad premature as the air appears unstable enough for showers to pop up anywhere. so keep a look out snow could fall almost anywhere from now on tonight

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
