Because we live in a dumbed down celebrity culture of Simon Cowells (never the first to know its raining is he, at least I'm keeping a vague grip on the meteorological wheel.)  Sad but true JennyJane.  Religion is no longer the opium of the people, it's the Kardashians and the likes of Graham Norton earning multi milionaire salaries. God help us all.  And I'm an empirical agnostic.

Do you know, they mentioned the Kardashians on tv earlier and I said to Southernman "who are these and where did they come from?" It seemed they just arrived already famous from nowhere. Before that I had to look online to see what "TOWIE" was.

And I am really sick at the way the celebrity wheel turns these days, so dumbed down.I don't want to know what they wear or eat, I'd much rather know what the weather is doing or what the plates in the earthquake zones are up to.

I totally agree with you.  As I walk along the road avoiding the sad ranks of people staring at their phones, I despair. I guess the human race are like rats. They'll keep breeding until the food runs out and then they'll turn completely on each other.  The Atlantic fronts will survive though!

The issue is that they watch things on tv that they think are real but they don't realise that everything they watch is fixed - talent shows - or scripted - eg jungle, big brother. And these things take over their lives and they don't concentrate on anything else, eg i know women my age - forty onwards - who could tell you the names of everyone in all the big brothers and what they did, but they couldn't tell you what the current Ukrainian crisis hinges on.
