Hail storm at home at the moment according to my CCTV!

Classic on the Victoria tube line - someone's poured fast setting cement into the control room!

I think there's a concrete case there for legal action in order to cement some compensation, AS would you agreePosted Image

I loved that recollection CK.  Only a little before my time, but I love to hear stories of how people coped.  It makes me appreciate how lucky we are and really how much we all feline foot around when there is a bit of snow.

did you use the word 'P-ussy'? and the filter get you or did you really use that word?

Please to report we are using satellite technology to ensure that any false recordings are rejected, problem is we are sharing it with the USA and it's presently watching their snowPosted Image

Feels cold her tonight at 5.7c but I think party of that's due to the wind.

Had some rumbles of thunder here and see some lightening, only 2 hits though

Huge amount of rainfall overhead just missed me and hit Rayleigh instead, my mate said it was apparently snowing, I reckon it was hail though

Radar shows only rainfall down here, but we are under -4c uppers right now according to V6!

Not sure if there's any foundation for a claim though

Definitely now have the NW flow as per JP's splendid forecasts. 3.2C here now and it's cooling quickly from the high of 7C or so at about 3pm. It's still a quagmire in the woods though...we need a few decent minus days and nights to freeze the mud. The golden retrievers were always rubbish at bringing things back, but they're not even golden now.

Had a crack of thunder and hail storm here in Southend about 30mins ago. Left a slushy hail deposit of about 5mm on most surfaces.

Closest thing to winter I have seen so far!

nearly 17 year old son is much more stroppy!

Yes i agree there Martyn. Teenage boys are REALLY Kevins. My son is 19 now and is just emerging from the dark side thankfully. My daughter is now 27, but she just adjusted and got on with it.

Happy birthday to your daughter

I would be interested, it was the year my dad told me he walked on ice floes on the sea at Southend, I've since seen photos online which prove he could have done.

Your Dad wasn't fibbing I can assure you. I wasn't old enough to remember it but my dad showed me the pics. Will see if I can dig them out.Extract from Southend timeline website:The Sea Freezes - Half a mile out to sea from the shore at Leigh-on-Sea on 22nd January 1963, the estuary turned to ice, boats were frozen solid and launches were held fast. The cockling industry suffered during greatly this winter period.Heres a pic I found online from Southend. You can see the old water flume at the Kursaal in the background.post-5249-0-33590500-1390504113_thumb.jp Edited by Shrimper

A very heavy sleety shower just came through here, could see the crystalline sleety bits landing then melting on my bin lid.

Home now and the car's still covered in the sleet/hail. Shame I missed it! Feels rather cold out now.

There's rain, snow, freezing rain, hail, the lot on the radar - just a shame it's quite far to the North West... come down here - we want you more than they do!! :)

A slow moving trough heading SE next week and cold uppers over us. Could be snowy at times. High ground could be lucky?!

here we go again

tonight

Posted Image

a chilly but not too strong north west wind

rain

Posted Image

none

temps

Posted Image

Posted Image

cold

frost in most places

weatch for fog again

west of london and east and north east areas especially around the coasts

slim chance some of this fog may cause ice patches ( be cautious either way)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

tomorrow

Posted Image

in the morning winds will be light south westerly

then mid pm will switch to a north west-west flow and will get quite breezy

rain

Posted Image

them fronts on the fax are really slow moving

should hit the west of the region early afternoon

may not effect the east of the region during daylight areas

the rain looks quite heavy as well

temps

Posted Image

somewhere around 6-8 degrees

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

tomorrow night

Posted Image

a weak westerly flow

rain (yuk)

Posted Image

Posted Image

gets to all around midnight

looks moderate with the odd heavy burst

temps

Posted Image

Posted Image

probably around 6-8 degrees

i cannot rule out the odd rumble from this set up

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

saturday

Posted Image

a more noticeable and colder north west wind

rain

morning but clearing around 10am west

12 am east

Posted Image

also there is a trough on the fax

this could rattle through mid pm and give some brief heavy downpours with hail and thunder

however when it gets dark the front to our north west heads in

temps

Posted Image

around 8-10 degrees by lunch

dropping when it gets dark then warmer but not warm when the next batch of rain arrives

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

saturday night

Posted Image

a cold and breezy north west wind

rain

Posted Image

this is tricky

if i go by ukmo it looks like rain-wintry showers

however if i go by the fax chart that looks mainly dry

so if uppers showing like this

Posted Image

Posted Image

if dry a cold night with poss frost but wind may stop it being too noticeable

if wet

rain with poss wintry showers in the heavy bursts

i am calling low risk on the wintry showers due to the fax chart

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

sunday

Posted Image

a real mess

a breezy but not strong south west flow

veering north west late pm and becoming stronger when it does

rainfall

Posted Image

looks to start dry

however just after lunch some very heavy rain incoming and may be persistant

temps

Posted Image

will feel chilly am

then get warmer when the rain arrives to around 8 degrees

it will feel horrid when the rain gets here

THINKING FLOODING WATCH ABOUT NOW

anyway back later with the updates

Evening John.  Couple of questions - I suspect from our location that your local BBC news is South-East?  On Look East tonight, the forecast for tomorrow evening's rain was light and patchy - you're going for moderate with heavy bursts - any views on reasons for the difference?  Second, over on the MOD thread there is the following post from Ian F:

http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/79144-model-output-discussion-19th-january-2014-18z-onwards/?p=2904642

Would you concur with the Met Office as referenced by Ian?

Ahoy Gang. Everyone got their ark primed for Sunday?

I am holding off on the sledge but can't deny I am a tiny bit excited. Walked to Fenchurch street from work this evening to test how long it would take just in case transport fails after one snowflake :)
