If you go to the netweather guides area there you can find what conditions are needed for snow in the uk. Look at the topic Winter snow setups posted by Thundery Wintry Showers for the basics. Sorry can't post link as on pad.

Hi Guys,  Do any of you think we will get a cold snap and snow soon? Iam new to weather watching so not sure what to look for

 

There are many different setups that bring cold and snow into the uk, as posted above the most brutal cold usually occurs with high pressure over Scandinavia and Easterly winds, this is my personal favourite, it does depend on your location though.
