Flurries this morning in Telford then some slightly heavier rain/sleet on way back from work, and first truly chilly day of the winter with a high of 2.5c though seems unwilling to fall below 2c tonight with this sheet of grot.

Only a sleety mixture this morning down here. And that is as good its comes in winter 2013/2014.

As I drove into Kettering it almost looked like snow.

Bad times.

The day has been completely dry here. If it stays dry overnight, it will be over 24 hours without rain. Cold too, just 2.4C max today.

Most of it has gone here too, about 10% of the ground covered. The maximum of 2.3c occurred shortly after midnight , since then it's gradually fallen and is back below freezing again.

Rain has just arrived here — about 2 hours earlier than expected. Yesterday was our only dry day throughout January. Rain total could top 200mm this month, only need about 8 mm to fall today.

Snow still seems to be falling and laying above 500m in Derbyshire.

Lucky Derbyshire! Definitely rain only on the Malverns - temp has risen steadily this morning from 1.1oC overnight to 4.5oC now. Moderate rain, wind picking up all the time.

I mentioned that on the model thread, but the track will be further north, meaning snow just for Scotland

FI on the 18Z seems all wrong

Probably wont happen but what makes you say that. A channel low has been modelled for a few runs now. Is it just disbelief that it would never happen in your back yard? Reverse psychology? Interesting.

It's February 1st and we in Hereford have had our first sleet shower. Pathetic excuse for a winter.

We just beat you in Shropshire — a frost PLUS a snow flurry!

Blue skies and a blustery wind, good drying conditions....looks can be deceiving though!

Think the worst of this storm system is expected here this afternoon into the evening, leading to a blowy night as well. Plenty of squally showers at times. Better tomorrow though with only scattered showers, could stay dry in fact for the majority.

Next week, growing signals again for several bouts of stormy weather - early days but the track of these will be closely watched, perhaps taking a more southerly route? always a slight chance of even a surprise snowfall, much dependent again on the track of these lows spinning our way.

Enjoy Posted Image

Yes, saw that low progged for friday, if it were to follow the same track as forecast today (hahahahahahahahaha) we would surely get the deepest snowfall in over 20 years a la '9th december 1990'!

Wind starting to pick up here, still dry with odd sunny spell but clouds thickening and getting darker.  An interesting afternoon coming up..

showers will spread in during the afternoon. Showers will be wintry at times, particularly over the summits, and possibly heavy with a risk of localised hail and lightning. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/mountain-forecasts/peak-district#?tab=mountainWeather

Very windy and my goodness it's nippy in the wind too... just came back from taking the dog a walk and I can barely type. Brr... but that's all there is at the moment. Fairly clear blue skies, very windy and no precip of any kind.
