What with the ECMWF predicting a prolonged cold spell & the Stratosphere forecast producing this!!!

Remember this "Might happen" but is very encouraging from Today's ECMWF & even the Met office model hinting at blocking.......

I love twitter.

Thats a very big Hurricane in that image

So, to summarise. Cold. Hopefully. Goody. I don't even mind if it's dry, as long as the damned Atlantic choo-choo stops.

I won't try and find the sledge just yet though. I may have jinxed it last year by buying in rock salt for our drive, which is quite steep and about 100ft long. Sorry all.

Yellow Warning of Ice for London & South East England :

Bracknell Forest, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes, Slough, Surrey, Windsor and Maidenhead, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire, Reading, Southampton, West Berkshire & Wokingham

Yellow Warning of Ice for East of England :

Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Bedford, Central Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire & Luton

A combination of clear spells and light winds will allow road temperatures to fall below freezing on Monday evening across northwestern parts of the UK, and then overnight and into Tuesday morning further south and east. This will allow icy stretches to form on untreated surfaces. The public are advised to take extra care and be aware of the risk of some minor travel disruption.

Issued at:

1052 on Mon 13 Jan 2014

Valid from:

1700 on Mon 13 Jan 2014

Valid to:

1000 on Tue 14 Jan 2014

Following rain or showers on Monday, clearing skies will allow road temperatures to fall below freezing quite widely on Monday evening and night, leading to icy stretches on untreated surfaces which will last well into Tuesday morning. In addition, further showers may affect parts of Scotland, northern England and North Wales overnight which may lead to wash-off of earlier road treatment, enhancing the risk of ice formation. These showers could also give some accumulations of snow on routes above about 300m.

There is some uncertainty over the timing of clearance of cloud and rain towards the south eastern boundary of the yellow area, and hence also the risk of ice, so this warning may be adjusted overnight.

Gave me a giggle when Jason T said the polar vortex was collapsing over the UK, it brought visions of the old 'chicken Licken' story and the sky 'falling down' Returned to work today so needed a laugh (although I'm sure the significance of the PV is important to our wanting snow) swiftly onto 300 and some buff geezers ;-)

Jason, if you didn't actually fill in the dialogue box and then hit "submit report", you're probably not guilty of getting anyone banned.

If that scenario for 380++ hours comes off, I'll go and spend my weekly grocery money on a hat and eat it.

To echo what others have said, it isn't a great idea to wade about in flood waters. Manhole covers could have popped off due to surcharging, leaving you prone to disappearing entirely down a very deep hole and swimming in sewage.

Yes and I advise if possible to take a big long stick use this to 'feel' the ground in shallow waters for holes.. on unfortunate fall into hole quickly turn big stick to a horizontal -------------- position...
