Sure I must be seeing things under the lamp post given the snowless winter so far, but sure I'm seeing some thicker blobs mixed in with the heavier precipitation. Hail I'm guessing. Posted Image

Forget the snow, I'm concerned about the winds tomorrow as being near Carmarthen I'm likely to end up in orbit ......... I'll send you all a postcard from the moon. :winky:

The heavy rain should clear to sun and showers around midday, strong winds especially afternoon, inland South Wales gusts no higher than 60mph.

The 100mph risk is only for far Nw Wales

This amazing destructive spell of weather began on December 12th and two non calendar months have now passed since then.

I have recorded 652mm rain since that date.

In two successive calendar months the highest total was 495mm and that being from the December and January gone. Before this the highest over two months was 454mm for November and December 2009. The wettest 3 months period in my 10 year record is 592mm October to December 2012. This spell of weather then quite unprecedented in my short record.

RED warning now issued by Met Office for W and NW Wales with 100mph gusts predicted

---

A vigorous area of low pressure is expected to move northeastwards across northern parts of the UK later on Wednesday, clearing eastwards early on Thursday. This is likely to be accompanied by a swathe of southwesterly gales across many areas which will be severe in places.  Winds will veer more westerly later on Wednesday.  A first peak in the winds is likely over southwest England around the middle of Wednesday but with the main swathe of even stronger and potentially damaging winds crossing parts of Wales then northern England later in the day (see Amber warning). The public should be prepared for the the risk of disruption to transport and possibly also power supplies.  In addition, large waves are likely to affect some coasts.

There remains some uncertainty regarding the exact track of the vigorous depression and hence the areas more likely to be affected by the worst of the winds. However, current ideas suggest that parts of western England, Wales and northern England will bear the brunt with gusts of 60-70 mph widely, perhaps with gusts of 80-90 mph in exposed parts of north and west Wales and northwest England.

---

Horrendous out there, winds increasing with increasingly strong gusts and torrential rain. This is going to be nasty, do not travel unless you have to - these kinda storms are dangerous.

Very heavy squally rain now in Merthyr. Today is not going to be pretty.

Stay safe. Hope everyone in West Wales come out of today unharmed.

Thoughts are with my Uni town of Aberystwyth.
