I'm HERE!! Another day, another sad one for coldies. The today's 12z is still quite poor for anything showing cold. At this rate we be seeing more flood misery. The Ceurden Valley near me is gonna flood soon. i saw a huge lake of water on a field this morning, down in the valley.

Well we didn't quite reach the drought conditions I though of today.

We almost got to 24 hours without rain and the first dry day since before New Year but by 4pm it was back.

Never mind there is a rumour that Saturday may be dry throughout but the jury is out until midnight tomorrow.

Maybe another chance of seeing the Northern Lights again tonight although no doubt cloud will spoil it as last night.

Thinking of starting drizzle chasing tours in uk , possibly getting the Americans interested in catching some extreme drizzle on video , and of course the thrill of the chase !!!....

Sounds like a Monty Python sketch in the making!

Eno on NW Tonight was making predicted maxima of 6-7C sound really cold. It just shows how desperate things have been of late. I remember in December 2010 finding it balmy when the temperature one day rose all the way to 2C.

Yes and the prospect of minimum temps of 1 and 2 degrees has been rare so far, in some months like Dec 2010 such minima would have been rated as mild.

I don't think we have managed one proper starry clear night so far this winter - the promise of such evenings quickly scuppered by cloud brought in by the incessant wind.

Tomorrow night promised to be such a night, but now looks yet another one which will be invaded by cloud before dawn preventing a proper air frost developing - still it should get cold quite quickly tomorrow evening and I'm looking forward to a rare proper wintry cold feeling evening at least. Conditions over Christmas and new year for the third year in a row absolutely abymsal for cold and snow lovers - can't help but think payback for the superb ones we saw in 2008-2010. Also can't help but think mother nature is paying us back for the good summer weather we saw last year.

Yeah just had a very heavy prolonged large hail shower, and 1 small rumble of thunder as it departed. Rather surprised. A few more bits of hail falling now.

Rain, hail and sleet here at the moment, so much for Saturday's promised full dry day.

Even last nights chance of frost didn't materialise with a minimum of 1.6c here and sInce the cloud and shower came it has risen to 2.3c.

Anyway maybe a chance of a bit of isolated frost during the remainder of what is officially called winter.

Well it's not doing anything here anymore. It's just some showers, it will be nice and sunny later.

Certainly wasn't expecting to be seeing snow here at (nearly) 9 in the morning. Forecast was for overnight frost and sunny skies today, cripes. Still sleeting somewhat even now with occasional heavier/snowier interludes.

Had a brief but heavy hail and sleet shower as I went to Morrisons.

Didn't really stick apart from the usual suspects, car windscreens etc but the top above about 1400 are white.

Radar still showing a fair number of showers crossing the region.

Typical that temperatures etc weren't more favourable or we could have finally been looking at some settling snow although the temperature here has dropped back slightly and is now at 1.9c.

We tried to ride but gave up, although it had brightened up a bit, its going dark again but nothing really showing on the radar, but you can feel its got colder since 8am.

Yes it looks like it could come on again but the radar shows the activity has moved south of us now with the Peak District getting the showers so I expect that we can look forward to a better afternoon than morning.Just been out in the car and the travel news said that the Snake and Woodhead Passes were both badly effected by snow so it looks like altitude is playing a major part in who gets what today.

Not surprised some of the highest elevations have a bit of snow lying, it's been noticeably colder the last two days.  A few rogue (rain) showers here this morning but looks like the sun has got his hat on for this arvo Posted Image

...next week - West winning on points for now, but the bEAST may counter and we may (low confidence) see a battleground situation develop.  Knowing us North Westerners though we'll probably be on the cold rain side lol
