Storm today in the West 50 to 70mph gusts have been reported. The wind from this point onwards will stay strong but start to slowly ease off but it will remain strong overnight into Monday.

The sat images from the past week have not been good just mainly cloudy but on Monday the North East could be seen,

Some parts along the South as well,

Greetings from Stavanger.

Sadly, seems there was some snow - various patches remaining - but just cold and dry (-1 C). Not sure if the band in the north sea will make any inroads.

Was sleet/snow on the high stretch before Perth with slush on the road when driving to Aberdeen this morning. Snowline quite low on the hills.

A surprisingly pleasant afternoon eventually, if you ignore the biting wind, heavy rain showers and dog poop.  The highlight was a good sighting of some dolphins at the lighthouse - I don't often see them in winter.

Off north tonight to say hello to whatever comes in from the north Atlantic.  Colder later in the week so longjohns packed, Blitz.

A distinct lack of snow here, just loads of sleet, hail, rain....all horizontal, off course. And that wind would cut ye in three! I doubt very much that we'll see any white stuff here, there is a dusting on the mountain tops though.

Well I thought I would have seen at least a couple of snowflakes today, but nope! This is getting really dire now. I don't think I could look at another flaming chart if you paid me!

I am usually quite sad to see winter go but I don't think I will feel like that this year.

Very light snow here in Stavanger.

Nice - just came out of the restaurant after dinner in the old town / harbour area and little flakes drifting down in a chilly breeze.

EDIT. I see snow is affecting the higher routes in bonnie Scotland.

Some interesting discussion on MT

"I think if one looks back through January and Tamars posts, she has always said that nothing spectacular would show until at least February and that this week is a bonus."

So still a waiting game ....

Off for a break as all this waiting is getting to me lol

A tad breezy this evening! Fairly steady windspeeds of around 45kts (Severe Gale 9) with a top gust so far of 69 kts (79mph). Turning colder with a mixture of rain and sleet.

Slightly sad that this is perhaps the most promising snow accumulations chart we've seen all month but there it is - some accumulations to low levels in Fife and the Lothians from a slackish short fetch easterly flow tomorrow night post-9298-0-26381700-1390771467_thumb.jp

I know it's not funny that we seem to be missing out yet again as winter fast approaches it's final weeks but check out the model thread and Frosty defending the models as If they are people with feelings.... Too funny

Well it's been a windy day in the West I think somewhere along the coasts reported a 79mph gust around 3pm today. The low today reached 947mb at 12pm and overnight it will start  to move into the UK bringing some wet and windy with it but the low itself along with the winds will be much weaker than earlier on.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
