The real polar vortex (found in the stratosphere) is still centered over the North Pole today, albeit a bit squished.

Could get interesting towards the Kent and Sussex coasts for intense rainfall after 10pm

Anyone for lake effect snow? Buffalo, New York could get up to 36 inches tonight. 36 inches, could possibly imagine 3 feet of snow!?

Looking at the radar I would say that rain is a lot further south and tracking more along the channel, far SE will not escape though, and that tail may yet clip a few too a bit later.

Yeah definitely seems to be bending to the east a bit.

I would not want it but did see the mention of the next bout tracking over the water and that was my first thought too.

I agree Jax, it looks from my latest glance at the Raintoday radar as though the bulk of the heavier stuff will be out to sea and along the coastal fringes of Hampshire, Sussex and Kent, with some bursts getting maybe about 20/30 miles inland?  Could be some lighter rain across a wider area though.  Should be better news for the Thames and its tributaries than it seemed a while back but of course not good for those in the areas that get it.

it definitely seems to have moved to the east which is a good thing for the Thames. Went to the river today in Kingston and it is very high, parts of the tow path i was on were submerged.

The Atlantic's far too warm at the mo, so you're right in that.

Epic summary as always JP Posted ImagePosted Image

Was looking at the output myself a while ago and came to similar conclusion, me being north expect the wet tomorrow night and a frost thursday night, damp fizzle at the end, then it is the weekend anyway and night temps tail off towards the end of the week. (I may get a full nights sleep Posted Image )

With apologies for being a snow Grinch, but dare I ask if there's anything remotely dry or settled on the horizon? After all the recent disruption, the last thing some areas need is snow and ice. :-(

no problem jax

lets hope we can start to see the end of this extreme rain

i would forfeit the cold even to see dryer conditions

and you will not see me say that too often Posted Image

With you on that too, I do not like it extreme cold and certainly not for a long time, just as this wet period seems to have dragged on and on.  I only heat the house downstairs (whats the point upstairs if your under a duvet anyway?) so like cool, just as I like warm, but not a moaner for any spurts of decent hot or cold weather to bring a little change every now and again Posted Image
