Hmm Metcheck is going with just 1.6mm rain tomorrow and XCweather/Accuweather are going with over 10mm for my postcode (ss6). Big difference there? All GFS aren't they?

EDIT - Metcheck hasn't updated since last night! Stuck on:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2532566/Storm-Hercules-grip-Northeast-Canada-records-temperatures-cold-MARS.html

I have been reading this about the usa. Also they are saying that skin freezes in it in 15 minutes.

I am just wondering, is it correct or is it just media sensationalism? Because it occurs to me that nobody could do any work or get to work if that was true, and they do go to work even with 22 inches of snow.Would they be ok in it if covered say with a thick scarf?

I know that the cold does kill but this seems a bit sudden and extreme.

Also would it be something which could occur here - thinking of the cold, not the snow- it seems to be some sort of record for them.

well i know they recommend staying in from the extreme cold as it can freeze the water in your eyes, if not covered up; so imagine the skin would suffer similar to freezer burn if exposed too long. :)

I thought about it but then thought hmm would crack the lens!

correct reply!

I tend to stick to NAE at close range since Accuweather last year forecast me for temps of 10c and snow and when I looked at Metcheck in November for December it had me down for I think it was -26 or something you can get NAE on weather online under expert charts.

omg i had no idea about that.

one of the things i'm also wondering about is that when the colder weather gets here, with all the rain we've had, the grounds will be sodden, so that should turn to ice and so make everything colder.

Regardless then of whether it snows here or not, it will be much colder than is should be.

Erm, I think, anyway. And then relating that to the cold in the usa.

well the cold i'm talking about is really extreme. but doesnt have to be so extreme to get frost bite. as for saturated ground.. well it could freeze if cold enough, but the soil/ground would probably need a good few days of sub zero temps to freeze to any depth. the thing is, that even if ground temps are really cold, the air temps and dew point need to be in the right place for it to be cold too. if you see what i mean.

wednesday

wait for it

drum roll and all that

Posted Image

high pressure over the far south east and pressure looks high enough to keep it dry

probably cloudy looking at that

lets hope this trend continues

also the fax chart and ecm match

so all in all looking better but we still have a few problems to get through yet

Was the wind supposed to get strong now, I swear it's blowing the strongest it blown all day now. Or at least it sounds that way. It really whistling through the double glazing, it hasn't done that often during all these windy spells. May just be a slightly different direction may be.

Wasn't it supposed to veer more Southerly about now?

not windy here now, but was a little bit earlier. looking at radar it could be the band of rain paasing thats got the wind up too. was raining here short while back which is when the wind picked up :)

well theres a band of rain on radar round that way so it might have increased the wind. as for whether it was meant to go one way or another... well i dont think the weather reads the models

ecm

Posted Image

main op run for ecm

the 10th looks to be fi

however this was not an outlier as there are colder ensembles

although the 10th has a fair spread so caution advised

from the 13th the op matches the mean which helps

gfs not cold but certainly not warm either

wind

Posted Image

nothing wind wise to worry about

breezy yes

damaging no

gfs loses the plot on the 16th Posted ImagePosted Image

rain

Posted Image

heres the worry

lots of rain to the 7th

then dry which is good

then precipitation on the 11th then dry again after that

all in all

looking better Posted ImagePosted Image

It's very windy in Ippy.........again. 'Yawn!' I'm beginning to feel very blasé about all these lows queuing up to get in. Pity that's not the case with T Storms. Although I probably wouldn't be quite so blasé about them. Just knackered from the constant highs. :D

You need to get a little teeny tiny square of paper, lick it and stick it exactly in the middle of your forehead Posted Image

Must confess I have never heard this "cure" before :)
