This rain over dorset is really hanging about much worse than was forecast today! Not good!

Tell me about it I,ve had 11 inches of rain since it started in earnest the week before Christmas.

Why they feel this country ever needs hose pipe bans is laughable we live in one of the wettest places in the world thats why we have stunning green scenery. Imagine how noah was, I might start building my ark!

Yep, had an inch today, wasn't expecting that, a lot more I think to the NW of Dorset, which is not good for the likes of the Lower stretches of the River Stour. By the time tomorrow is done, could well be looking at in excess of 100mm since the turn of the year.

83mm so far this year to five minutes ago.  Add that to what fell from December 13th and you get 323mm which, by my calculations is 12.8"...and it's still raining.

Yep to back up what has been written above, rainfall totals for north and east dorset(maybe the whole of dorset) are twice what was being forecasted by the models and the forecasters. Fields here are already totally saturated with fields just containing standing water. Springs are gushing out that never existed a few days ago and the tributaries of the stour are reaching record levels, higher than the flooding that occured back end of december (see gillingham levels).

This will spread down to sturminster, blandford and then onto wimborne, christchurch etc over saturday evening, sunday and monday morning, being joined by the rainfall that's forecasted to fall over that period.

Personally i think the environmental agency have missed one here and due to lack of people on the ground are not recognising quite how much water is around in this area.

Couldn't agree more Iceberg, the Stour at Longham is going to crash over the road without doubt now. It's not listed as a severe warning area, and I think the problem is, that all that live in that area, are being very blasé about it, "it wont happen", "never reaches the houses here", "there is no severe warning" etc etc, well I think there is a very high possibility that it will this time round. I sincerely hope it doesn't!

EDIT: Rapodo excepted in that case, I know a couple that live almost opposite and they don't seem concerned at all, they think I'm nuts Posted Image

Wareham causeway is still flooded and the rain is relentless now, heavy and persistent, almost 30mm since 2am-ish. The MO have added a yellow warning until 6pm now.

Just to let everyone know you should book your holiday and get your sledges ready as I am going skiing on the 11th of January and we all know what that means... Posted Image

Sadly, snow doesn't settle on floodwater :(

How very true, Iceberg,  The Wriggle around Yetminster is way over its banks and the surrounding fields are like lakes and yet, as of five minutes ago, there is only an alert out and not a warning.  If it does stop before dark, I'll potter down to the Yeo at the bottom of the village and see how that is.

There is an area on one of the tracks around here that can turn into a mini river if there has been large amounts of rain that runs into an actual river.

My mum decided to video it this morning, when I saw the video I was quite suprised and would say that it is the worst that I have seen so far, I didn't see it myself but wouldn't wan't to as my shoes would probably get soaked!

BBC live text reports the River Severn has burst its banks at Minsterworth. Maybe as a result of the bore and incoming tide.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25580722

Well looks like the rain has finally cleared here, ended up with 26.5mm of rain, that's 75.6mm for the year to date.

Off out now to catch the high tide at Poole/Sandbanks.

Just come back from Dorchester, there's a lot of flooding around the area, at one stage the A352 between Wool and WInfrith is flooded, so a quick spin around and then back through Bere Regis to Bakers Arms, flooded in many places. Bakers Arms roundabout & pub under inches of water. Police just opened the A350 between Upton & Bakers Arms.

Back edge is now here, rain has stopped.

I thought I'd join with the rainfall reports on here, this showing the breakdown of December's rainfall.

post-7183-0-00590200-1388848352_thumb.pn

This equated to 127.8mm (just over 5 inches in old money) and was 44mm than the 1981 to 2010 norm for Southern and Central Southern England.

Here's the daily rainfall amounts since the start of this year and yes it's still raining.

post-7183-0-23737600-1388848578_thumb.pn

As stated in yesterday's post here, I don't see it relenting from either bands of rain or showers until 9th January at the earliest.
