Squall line went through Derby about 11am, i was driving in it. Very intense rain, wind and a bit of hail for about 5-10 minutes before back to steady rain, which we still have now.

Yes and pretty potent, very heavy rain here for an hour and winds gusting 48mph. But looking a little more potent now as its moving East.

The Met have issued warnings for coastal flooding on Friday due to high tides, lowering pressure and strong winds. Surprised the warning only stated gusts of 50-60mph for coastal locations.

The tides for Friday the 3rd look like causing a few problems... This is at a very high tide at 12pm.

Posted Image

and then again on the 5th-6th the UK gets swallowed by a hungry black hole monster, which will alos coincide with 2 very high tides.

Could be some record breaking wave heights off Ireland and exacerbated problems with the river tides being pushed even higher with torrential rain in places making for a nasty cocktail.

Well we could do without any record-breaking rainfall here after recording 32mm for yesterday's deluge. Even though we're on the Hills and it runs off, it's still a horrid sludgy mess on the Malvern paths and of course the Severn will rise with high totals over north Wales. Not good.

Can we have one of these shields please? Ill do a swap for our thunder shield..

I dont think we can handle any more water here!

Even places miles and miles away from rivers up hills are flooded. the ground round here simply cant take any more water. Im shocked the drains are still working.

Lucky, My dad owns a boat. Bad thing is that its on its trailer on a small hill surrounded by water. So erm... May need to get my swimming trunks on.

Storm Forecast
Valid: Thu 02 Jan 2014 06:00 to Fri 03 Jan 2014 06:00 UTC
Issued: Wed 01 Jan 2014 23:41
Forecaster: GATZEN
SYNOPSIS / DISCUSSION

Across western Europe, a new intensification of the northern Atlantic cyclonic activity is increasingly affecting the flow. A short-wave trough will move east across Germany during the day. In its wake, a strong mid-level jet streak will spread into the British Isles and an intense low pressure system will move to a position to the north of Ireland. The cold front of the storm will be located ahead of the following jet streak and reaches the North Sea soon after midnight. Therefore, only shallow instability is expected in the warm air mass of the low-level jet ahead of the cold front, and thunderstorms are not likely. A weak tornado is not ruled out in the range of the narrow cold frontal rain band due to the strong low-level vertical wind shear. In the wake of the cold front, rather dry air masses will limit the potential of thunderstorms. A few storms may develop, but the contribution of deep moist convection to the occurrence of severe wind gusts is expected to be weak

06 oz downgrades Mondays storm somewhat although the storm stalls out to the west. I think this one is going to upgraded and downgraded and we won't know until Saturday evening whats going to happen.
