Confused by forecasts for here. BBC going for it getting worse this afternoon, yet Met Office say now is as bad as it will get and XC says moderating from noon.

Just got lively round here just had an 67 mph gust. Now that moves into the interesting class. 70 to 80 exceptional. Unlikely to get there though.

Early yellow rain warning out for SW England on Monday

Issued at: 1137 on Fri 27 Dec 2013

Valid from: 0005 on Mon 30 Dec 2013

Valid to: 0900 on Mon 30 Dec 2013

Further rain, heavy at times, is expected to spread quickly eastwards across southwest England on Sunday night and into Monday morning. Rainfall totals are expected to be widely 15 to 20 mm, but as much as 40 to 50 mm over windward coasts and hills. With ground already saturated over much of this region, the public should be aware of the risk of further local flooding. In addition to this rain, strong winds - gusting up to 60 mph over more-exposed locations - will accompany the rain.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Another active Atlantic frontal system is expected to swing eastwards across UK on Sunday night and Monday morning. A combination of strong winds and very moist air will give locally significant accumulations over windward coasts and upslopes, The wind and rain will clear quickly eastwards during Monday morning.

Up in Lincoln today, all in all a very windy day, especially through here as the wind seems to be channelled inbetween the elevated landscape both N and S of the City. Not nice to be out in, although I wouldn't class it in the 'dangerous' category. Still bad nevertheless.

XC weather suggesting gusts over the pennines well into the 60s, it is very difficult walking around Consett and onto the moors now.  Reading between the lines, latest BBC broadcast suggested that perhaps this will go on a little longer and be a little more pronounced this afternoon than anticipated across the north....

A gust of 68 mph at 0818 is the highest of the day here and I can't see it being topped now. Since then the highest has been 63 mph at 1011. Windy but nothing exceptional.

Interesting almost matching you. 67 mph the highest at 12:06 on the back of a shower. Wind swinging more south west now recent gust 56mph. The plus sixty was isolated one though.

Stayed around a mean sustained wind of around 30 and gust of 50 (occasionally higher) all day.  Windy for sure, but thankfully not expecting to hear of much damage in Sunderland beyond the odd wheelie bin falling over.

Thanks to those working hard I now have power restored, rather them than me working outside in this weather! Still gusting 60-70mph, a very prolonged period of severe winds. Exceptional day with quite a lot of structural damage to buildings most of it fairly minor with slates off and a few chimney pots. There have been reports of roofs being blown off and roads closed due to unsafe structures.

Top gust outside my front door 86.6mph with 30 second mean speeds 55-58mph.

A very exposed part on the shore 98mph with 30 second mean speeds of 65-70mph.

Winds started moderating after three O'clock. Apart from one freak gust that came with a decaying shower 67mph a normal run of the mill windy winters day. The next highest gust was 56mph and most of the highest gusts reached 55 mph. The highest average was 34mph at lunch time shortly after the the 67 mph gust. Most of the time it wandered between 25 and 30mph before falling away after mid afternoon.

Here's a photo I took about an hour ago outside my house. It came down last night. It must have been the 5 second power cut I had. Power needs to go off for them to cut it down.
