Minimum here was -0.3C with a white frost. Lovely rainbow to the North at about 09.30 but now clouded over. Groundhog day take ...

Afternoon all! Temp got down to 0.8 in the wee small hours, but no frost in the morning as it had clouded over. Temp now up to 6.3, cloudy with light rain so nae chance of a frost. Not sure how the next storm will pan out. Isn't looking too bad for this area, but that could easily change.

Just back from a short walk round local streets and it's the nippiest in weeks - maybe the nippiest this winter. A sunny start, and now darkening skies, but a proper feel of winter to it, thanks be at last!!

Lol, too bloody late, the cloud was sweeping in as I was typing earlier!  I've barely had the camera out for a while now cos the sky's just been this familiar grey pish.  My other handicap is that I changed work a bit over a year ago and no longer get to see so many wonderful different places on call of duty.

Hey guys,   -4 here last night and that was a reading from two stations. (cheapish ones lol).  Everything is frozen solid, skies were stunning during the night absolutely gin clear. we have had loads of flooding with we bothies and salmon houses that have stood for years now 1/3 submerged in water.   The firth birst its banks up over fields then along the roads and right to the doorstep of a local shop which was around 300 meters away from where the tide usually stop's.

Wind has recently changed direction and cloud's are rolling in,  still at -1.3 though..  It's like im waiting for a dove to bring me a twig back so i can release the animal's.............two by two,

Have had a few day's away ( wife's no well )  but i have been watching the report's on down south and my heart really does go out..

Certainly a colder day. Min here was just above freezing. Currently 4.7c with the wind starting to pick up. Just 2c at Leuchars at 1pm.

Now overcast after a sunny start.

welcome to MODEL MAYHEM

clearly theres something going on with the models.

the UKMO is ok and in line there abouts at its 144hr chart

post-18233-0-76435500-1388929982_thumb.g

GEM finishes its run wanting to give us a go at Greenland

post-18233-0-18909000-1388929975_thumb.p

GFS wants to bring in the zonal onslaught in both runs against its 500mb anomalies charts but on a good note there are quite a few colder runs appeared in the ensembles even on its 6z which is fairly crap

post-18233-0-11550500-1388929982_thumb.ppost-18233-0-74492700-1388929971_thumb.ppost-18233-0-72690500-1388930277_thumb.gpost-18233-0-73061600-1388929680_thumb.gpost-18233-0-25373300-1388929685_thumb.g

then finally the ECM wants to leaves us with a building scandi high at the end of the run which isn't supported by the mean anomalies charts which show a go at Greenland in the end

post-18233-0-35781000-1388929707_thumb.gpost-18233-0-96428500-1388929707_thumb.gpost-18233-0-49289900-1388929708_thumb.gpost-18233-0-43912700-1388929709_thumb.gpost-18233-0-01582700-1388929706_thumb.g

and quite clearly in the ensembles has gone on holiday at day 5

post-18233-0-35298200-1388929706_thumb.g

all models up in the air what a joy this is eh.

so to sum up cant really look past 120-144hr yet so go back to bed everyone and come back Tuesday/Wednesday we might get a better picture of where we are headed.

only kidding of course but its advised you only stay if you have enough hair to deal with having some pulled out or are of the shiny headed variety which in that case your fine Posted Image

here is the problem between the ECM op and the mean anomalies charts and please excuse the colours I chose to highlight where the pressure would be there a little hard to see.

its the trough out west if that just dropped south like on the anomalies charts we would be in a beasterly like on the anomalies charts

week 3 and 4 on the JMA looking cold and when it comes to this week 3/4 chart due to them being combined it tends to dumb down the anomalies

post-18233-0-07135600-1388939303_thumb.p

maybe we will see some scenes like this

post-18233-0-74131800-1388939310_thumb.j

EDIT: also talk on twitter from JOE B, RYAN MAUE and JIM CANTORE of warm feb in USA so we might hold onto cold into feb as that cold has to go somewhere and with pattern change in offing we might have a chance of decent length if we manage to get a cold spell

UKMO 144hr leaves us seeing our snow potential for next weekend with some really cold uppers out to the west that could come our way so one to watch as snow on westerlies always seem to deliver good amounts

I dunno about lively later.....Have you been in the MOD?Posted Image Some new poster who claims to be 60 and an old Met man has just called Steve Murr 'son'...Oops!

Latest runs are still a bit confusing for me to follow.  Hope the ECM continues to be a bit more positive with its outlook.
