It's been really howling here for the last few hours. The gusts are rattling the house and sound horrible. My son got in from work and said that emergency response vehicles were out in force. I think there was a minor land slide on the road to Halland. Just spoken to my parents who live in East a Grinstead and loads of roads are shut due to fallen trees. They have been without power iron the last half hour. Dad said at their age (83) it was a bit late to be having candlelit dinners!

What is really worrying me is we haven't seen the worst of it yet.

I am praying that the large fir trees at the back of the garden don't come down on the house.

Stay safe everyone.

Seems to have gone quiet in Bexleyheath - for now!

It seems to have calmed down a tad in Ipswich as well....but the rain is still persistent. I've just downloaded that airline radar app. It's fantastic. :)

So why has it calmed down if only temporarily? Is it like the eye of the storm the calm centre so to speak?..

Two areas of strong winds associated with two fronts, the second front due at around 10pm will be the strongest.

Just spent 3 hours doing a 20 mile round trip :(

It is absolutely atrocious out there at the moment! Rain so heavy it's like fog and the wind is sending it sideways. Just passed the 40mm mark for rainfall too, with plenty more on the way? Must have some flooding going to happen overnight.

Thus far on the Coast just West of Brighton here we've reached 66mph Max gust.

Winds did fall a little lighter for an hour or so but have since started to gradually increase a little.

Also noticed a slight change in direction, which strikes me as a little odd.

Will post updates later.

Speeds shown below are in Knots..

Hopefully not too many people venture out thinking everything has calmed down for the evening, and are then caught out when it bursts into life again.

Me too such an easy mistake to make for people who unlike us havnt been paying close attention to the forecasts, thundery activity also looks possible!

Seems like during this brief lull, LGW are getting the landings in ASAP and all departing traffic is holding on the taxiways.

I noticed that as well. I've just downloaded that app and it's very good.
