Hmmm.. yeah I bet they went OTT with their headlines though didn't they?.. with something along the lines of 'BRITAIN SET FOR 100MPH HURRICANE THAT'LL END CHRISTMAS FOREVER!  lmao

Erm.

100mph winds... Check.

Mention of hurricane from VERY respected establishments,( Cough.. NOAA.. Cough.. Erm. Did I cough early? ).... Check.

I can see we have a N/S devide bunch of BS going on here,

Lets stop now.

Unless you are smack bang in the middle of the UK in a ditch. You will certainly see some very gusty and possibly sustained winds.

The South, West, NW, NE, Hell pretty much ANY exposed area will see 80mph+ wind gusts over the next 64+ hours.

The western side of Ireland are about to get one hell of a kick in, and again on friday.  Same goes for the south , NW and NE of Scotland.

Now..

Does anyone have anything half constructive to say?.

Ah, Probably about right then.

Edit:

Tbh, Its probably close enough...

Travellers warned as the day progresses essentially.

Lynxus's tips for survival tomorrow:

1- Stay away from exposed coasts.

2- Stay away from rivers, streams.

3- No hiding under trees, sheets of metal or open air razor blade factories.

4- Slow down on motorways when its raining ( duh! ? )

5- Dont die.

5.1- Figured id say it.. No SWIMMING IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING! ( Even then id say, erm.. Stay on dry land.. )

Yes, that was it. "100MPH" and "Hurricane" were definitely mentioned.

I was thinking about an xmas holiday on the continent via british airways..........looked at the models and changed my mind, why pay for a flight when I can hop aboard the jet stream and end up skiing in the urals in 30 mins! Posted Image

Aircraft would use a lot of fuel heading into the Jetstream+storm I'd expect....

Talking of fuel today's storm is super fueled, I can only say that everywhere is at risk of affects from this big storm in one way or another, and affecting on Tue too.

Where for Eagle? How high do you expect it to reach over land in Ulster not along the coast?

Over land - 60 - 70mph gusts. It's very difficult though to forecast over land because friction gets in the way. I don't think 40 - 50 mph is an unreasonable forecast for wind speed. It's very severe but that looks quite likely.

The UK says amber - we say orange. It's tastier.

Totally agree!

They will upgrade to red later today (24 hours out). The thing is they have to be very careful and as precise as possible.

It's not like here where anyone can give a forecast. There are consequences to getting it horribly wrong for publicly funded met offices.

I don't think 60-70mp/h is a red warning. It reached 84 mp/h over western tyrone on wednesday and the damage was minimal so 60-70 is nothing out of the ordinary

What else can you say about this? Pick a number for wind speed.

A subtle change in wind direction to the south takes us out of firing line although anywhere in sunny Sheffield exposed to south wind will have a stormy day. Tomorrow morning another bout of strong winds will hit us this being more westerly so we will notice it.
