I am thinking this could hit me here in Derby, camera at the ready Posted Image Infact, I think I can hear distant rumbles.

looks like you may well be in a sweet spot mate.......too far south here along the M4 corridor, although will probably get some showers from the tail end of this trough towards dusk

Lightning not so frequent now. Really strong wind gusts though and heavy rain with hail mixed in. Occasional thunder now very high-based it seems.

Currently in Hull and it's the darkest I've seen it during daylight hours. (cue the jokes)

Wow - that was intense!

Short but very strong. Hail and a couple of VERY close CG strikes - lights flickering on and off

A nice surprise that was :)

Distant rumbles turned to an almost constant growl as a short but intense storm approached and then passed right overhead with gusty winds and several flashes of lightning including three close IC bolts, one of which with instant thunder that shook the windows and nearly made me fill my pants :D. The squall line at the front of the storm was very impressive. Still lots of rumbling as it moves away. For any time of the year I would be happy but in January it is truly amazing!

Lightning activity is slowing down a bit, peaking in the next few hours.

Was pretty heavy here: had about 5mm. The temp is still dropping and is now  4°C lower than when the shower began (now 5.9°C).

Cott is a long way from Buntingford and a bit lower down!

Edit: now 5.7°C!

Can't remember seeing something this active/widespread in January before, at least not recently. Been a thundery winter though, had 4 days of thunder or (distant) lightning this year and could have been 5 if I hadn't gone back to uni, also had thunder days up here before I returned.

Biggest storm in Europe by far.. Savour that for the summer months when all the MCS systems may be just across the water haha

Just watching the horse racing on C4 from Cheltenham and they've just had a spectacular lightning strike on the edge of the course, which the tv cameras captured.
