Moving away from here now, turned back to sleet on backedge, but a very nice surprise in what has been a very trying few weeks for a snow lover.

As I suspected might happen, the area of showers to the west yesterday evening fizzled away to nothing more than a short spell of light wet snow by the time it reached here early this morning.

All that remains is a layer of frozen slush on the car windscreens.

Some lucky people around last night. Nothing here, not even rain! However, we do have frost number 4 on the trot, so I'm happy with that (although I would have much preferred snow!).

No snow here overnight, but a hard frost. We just about managed to reach -0.1c earlier this morning.

Looks like being a nice sunny day, best make the most of it!

Looks like the Wrekin has a nice covering of snow this morning, turned back to light rain just as it was starting to settle here so just some patches of ice.

Lovely sunny morning though cloud pouring in from the west now as the next storm approaches.

Today marks the half-way point of the meteorological winter (Dec/Jan/Feb). Let's hope the second half is a lot colder & snowier than the first!

It was around this stage last winter that our prospects markedly improved.

People trying to predict the weather in the mod thread drives me nuts, 'met office 10+ however many days shows no snow' well it snowed here last night and they didn't show that in there forecast so how can they know that far out ?

Last night was a great surprise so I think they should shut the models down for a week and see if we get any more surprises lol

I don't think the -5 isotherm has even scraped the region this winter yet, it seems to be a never ending sea of yellow's and green's, at least last night's surprise despite not settling has meant it's not a completely snowless winter

Saw cars with snow on around 9am, coming from west midlands, inch of snow not unusual, not that I even gave snow a thought as a possibility last night, no cars here though with snow on, just ones on main road radford bank, must have come from higher elevations

so i have seen lying snow as early as 14th Jan in a way
