I can think of two recently- 3rd Jan 2011 which was lethal and completely forecast, and 4th Feb 2012 when everywhere else got the forecast snow.

9th Dec 2010, snow, followed by freezing rain, slippiest ive ever known, 4th Feb '12 was all snow, decent day that

25th Jan '13 also an evening of snow and freezing rain, morning of 26th very slippy

4th Feb really was as knife edge as it gets here, had moderate snow and hail most of the afternoon whilst down the road had sleet/freezing rain, event was unfortunately dampened as temperature's hit 2.5c in the eve with plain old rain washing away most of the 4cm of snow we did scrape.

This year's marginal events bar 14th January washout were generally on the right side here, 25th January & 22nd March especially with very heavy snow despite the 850hPa's almost hitting 0.

but not for most in this region, most of tomorrow we are in a mild sector, so no transient snow for most in here, turns colder Xmas eve

Wow Friday is really looking beastly on 18z, crazy winds, seems to be a slight southward shift with every run.

4th February 2012. Wow. If it wasn't for the internet and this forum...would never have known how lucky we got here that day. Felt so bad for those just that little bit further west. To have no chance of snow is simply disappointing (and not really that because you just accept it in our climate)...to come within just a few miles and still have none is just galling.

what a brilliant snow event that was here in leicester. Got about 8-10cms of snow out of it . snowed for about 6 hours non stop.wont forget about it that easily . temps were -2 all day that day.

Even high elevation didn't help with that one if you were too far west. Sleet and freezing rain were being reported in Wales and west Shropshire at 350m while it was snowing hard at near sea level further east. That day was a joke even by Shrewsbury weather standards!

We may not get the strongest winds or the heaviest rain here from today's event but the air pressure could be noteworthy.

The fax charts have a pressure of around 967mb at midnight tonight which, if correct, would be the second lowest value in December in the last 37 years. The record for December is 958.0mb on the 17th in 1989 and the second lowest is 967.7mb on the 20th in 1982.

As per the forecasts, it's rather wet & wild out there at the moment! Just got drenched getting from my car to the office, no point in putting up an umbrella in these conditions unless I intend auditioning for the part of Mary Poppins Posted Image

So, wind's picking up here all the time, currently quite a mild 7.6oC, rain varying from light to moderate, we've had around 4mm this morning, so nothing too bad as yet, although pretty unpleasant to go out in.

The charts for Friday do indeed look even scarier than today, still time for them to downgrade however.

If anything it's quietened a little here. Rain's eased off or is just light, still windy but less so than earlier. I do think that our position on the North/West end of the Malverns is affording us some protection as the wind appears to be SSWly at the mo, I think the Hills are sheltering us, until the wind shifts more Wly. Temp's gone up to 8.5oC.

Really quite gusty out there for our location. Making it hard to drive with the rain too.

If you Click on earth bottom left, Control - or + days, You can even change the heights.

Click on the area where the winds are most fierce, It will give you the mean wind speed.

stil windy here and raining litely. Those charts friday have mor chance of coming off than the cold snowy1's if it was showing. Rain starting to get heavy again.

Rain starting to get heavy again.

Yes, it's suddenly throwing it down again after a slight lull.

Judging by the radar, it looks like the main bulk of the rain will clear the region over the next couple of hours, although I think more is expected overnight & tomorrow morning.

Heavy rain here all morning, but just a blustery wind. Highest gust so far 16mph. Don't think we will get any major wind here....
