Possible severe Atlantic storms over the Christmas period

GFS 12z  has the christmas eve storm down to 925 mb.

edit..

GME also down to 925 mb.

On the plus side it seems to have been shifted a bit north.

However that doesn't chnge the fact it is still set to be extremely windy on Monday. Anywhere in the UK could see gusts of 50-60 mph.

Then as the low gets closer to Scotland, winds look like they may gust to 90-100mph

I'm looking at the netweather Extra Radar and checking out the surface pressure charts. Hopefully I can get the wording right. It looks like, behind the squall line, the  secondary Low pressure system that was showing on some weather charts yesterday is forming in the Irish Sea.

I like a good storm like this, but, this time round I just wish all the forecast models have it wrong and we have a nice big dumping of snow followed by crisp sunshine right through till March/April....but that'd be dreaming :(

guys this Low Pressure in the Irish Sea currently. What sort of wind speeds will it produce as it goes over Northern England? ~ It will surely hit in 1-2hours!

Nothing too serious showing up on the GFS..

Well, where there is a little curve over the Irish Sea. That is shown as a centre of a Low Pressure system on the netweather radar.

Behind the Squall Line ~ and South West of the Centre of the Low, winds gusts appear to be around 65-75mph.

Briefly touched 60-65mph in gusts as the line of storms came through. NMM showing a small swathe of 60-70mph gusts in association with the trough.

61mph at Capel Curig.

Thats unimpressive for there they often get 75mph plus! In fact they had 78mph gusts last night without a squall line!

I was just pointing out to the person I quoted that current wind observations aren't as high as he/she suggested. :good:
