Is that a greenland high over there? just wondering. 1020 High over greenland is quite a strong one I think.

I think that's just a surface HP pip, although someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

I think this may have been part of the reason why the MO warnings have been under such scrutiny today, they were awaiting further 12Z data. Posted Image

And rightly so, these volatile situations will test many good forecaster. The Meto are generally very good with storm forecasts, they've called it well so far this season.

Well done to Virgin trains for accepting train tickets for any train tomorrow, not just for the one you booked (and this evening too), I'm supposed to be traveling up north tomorrow afternoon but am now going to be up and out by 6am to miss this. You'd have to be mad not to change your journey time or other plans given the look of how things might pan out (I can imagine many lines blocked and a standstill in certain areas).

GFS 12z complicates things by creating a dual centred low, with a very different pressure distribution which keeps winds much strong own south over tuesday. Still some big surprises on this LP i think.

Thank god they've seen sense, could have got embarrassing for the Met Office if people in the south didn't have suficient wind warnings!

It's actually well Spotted PIP... There is signs that the Arctic High is building and could move over Greenland, especially with small heights currently building there.

Sorry mods, a little off topic there, but just throwing in my two cents...

Meteogroup made this image to show where the worst of the winds are to be expected.

A lot of differences on the pertubations at the moment for the next LP System (27th)...

A SUPER Channel Low here...Bad for the south...

Posted Image

While Pert 3 goes for something a little different... Albeit both options are horrible.

PLEASE don't let that 920mb run come true, that could be like Armageddon!

Hi Glenn.

Agreed.

I was just commenting on the 111h chart that i posted that's all. There certainly wasn't what i would call a 'Real' HP over Greenland at that time, but yes, heights were steadily building, and like u say, always the chance in FI that the Arctic High could move over towards the Greenland area later on.

Anyway, lots of weather to get through before then with the possibility of 2 storms over the xmas period.

Better move on now before we get told off. Posted Image

Travellers are being warned of delays on the East Coast Mainline tomorrow as heavy rain and high winds are forecast.

Network Rail has imposed a 50mph speed restriction for services on the line tomorrow (Monday, December 23) afternoon, between London King’s Cross and Peterborough, with electrified services restricted to 80mph between Peterborough and York from midday onwards.

Services north of York may also be subject to speed restrictions.

East Coast is warning customers intending to travel tomorrow to make their journey today or on Tuesday, if possible.
