I think the day is done with the showers now. It is going to be a chilly night and later the winds will strengthen to gale force and then the heavy rain comes in.

It be feel alot colder with the wind and the rain around tomorrow.

We may see a back edge snow event, especially over high ground perhaps over 200m on Tuesday/Xmas Eve morning.

A bit confused here.  The met office has issued amber warnings but If I am correct the North West is not covered.  Just saw a live report from Piccadilly Station in Manchester and the reporter was saying the south can see winds of 70mph with train delays and the north west can see wind of 90mph but no warnings for us?

Just about to say the same thing very strange indeed, mean time it has been a nice day in south Cheshire

Pretty much unbroken sunshine all day,a bit chilly in the breeze, consisering the forecast was for blustery showers for

 most of the day

Unless I'm missing something we're not even under a yellow warning anymore so unless our part of the storm has taken a sudden downgrade whilst the other parts haven't then someone has boo boo'd at the Met O I'd suspect.Even the one for tonight's ice doesn't cover 99% of the region.

Simply put, if the South see winds of 70 mph then the army is drafted in and a meeting of Cobra is called. Meanwhile in the North it is called winter.

I remember the windy winters of 1990s where the bbc graphics used to show the huge arrows through the irish sea and over scotland and the storms where cairngorm recorded 170-180 mph winds and waking up to see ronaldsway airport sign completely flattened.... A met warning but didnt really make the headlines... Edited by WillinGlossop

Just off topic my brother lives in Toronto and they have an emergency going on with an ice storm, 1st in years. 250,000 without power, trees down, power out for 72 hours, no trams, trains or underground. Scores of road accidents plus they have has so much snow so early with -6c at 2pm.  Guess they are getting it and we are not.

Had a mixture of hail and snow this afternoon which produced a very festive scene, however it will be very hazardous if this freezes and there's no sign of a gritter!
