Today its been one of them  funny days where the storm force winds is only couple miles down the road and way calmer here. Strange.

Yes, I would be more inclined to take it at face value if it were to start occurring consistently in the last third of the month though.

Looking at the radar i can't see where this mornings forecast rain is coming from as the main area is over towards the east with another out over the Irish Sea and both are heading NNE with a huge dry slot across western areas.

That is off course unless it arrived earlier than expected and has already cleared through.

As for snow potential; the Met O forecast is still saying snow over thigher ground, Pennines etc and possibly at lower levels as well.

However I can't see the vast majority in the region seeing anything other than the odd bit of sleet at best. Temperatures are just to high with what cold air is around being mainly to our north and being mixed out completely as the next system pushes in.

Even more typical is that tomorrow's storm which has dumped records amounts of snow across the eastern USA is going to give the good old UK nothing but more wind, more rain and more mild.

3.5c dew 2.2c feels pretty chilly in breeze...slate grey skies with hill tops covered in low cloud.... Yuck.... Any chance of snow outside scotland seems slim... None of the precip around seems heavy enough for any chance of evap cooling to come into play.... Oh well eyes back to the models....

Still drizzly here.

Not here but at least it's both dry and calm which are two weather words we haven't had much use for since mid December.

Our snow will come.........just probably have to wait until March again though.Currently 4.1c here and certainly feels raw and miserable but, as you said not cold enough for anything interesting.

Be surprised if anywhere in the region saw snow over the next couple of days unless above 2000ft.

Currently 3.6c here, for a so called frosty night ahead it's not even cold yet.

I can see why the Met office put up a warning for snow today over Cumbria because of the potential had precipitation been heavy as this would have induced evaporative cooling and delivered wet snow to quite low levels.

Alas as it has turned out, the precipitation was very light and shortlived, indeed I would describe it as drizzle, consequently no evaporative cooling and consequently the snowline is a rather pitiful 2,000 ft. The orientation of the trough/frontal feature was all wrong for heavy precipitation, coming in from the south/southeast its moisture rapidly squeezed and a dying feature - but this would not have been known by the Met until the early hours of this morning and therefore too late to cancel the warnings.

Had the frontal feature been longer with a fetch over the Irish Sea and winds more south/southwest in orientation then we would have seen significant evaporative cooling as the air would have been forced over the western fells and importantly precipitation would have been enhanced by orographic uplift. We also didn't manage to develop a cold still pool of air overnight with clear skies - again had this happened it would have helped to knock dewpoints down to more favourable levels.

All in all a disappointing state of affairs which held promise but none of the ingredients needed transpired.

5.1c Very chilly before the next storm from the Atlantic comes in!

Is it meant to be windy here tomorrow?
