I've told my folks to travel on the Monday now, storm looks pretty serious to me with a lot of people on the roads before xmas. The one a few weeks back wasnt nearly as bad (if it verifies) and that was pretty serious

I'm just telling everyone to prepare to be flexible with travel, including cancelling if needs be. I'm very impressed with young relatives in East Lothian - one very very very new driver (a few months) and one only a couple of years, but both independently have phoned to cancel planned visits today and yesterday because "it's too windy and I don't feel safe driving in it" - we've applauded wildly and made it clear we think they are really intelligent and cool for being such good drivers!

I'm man enough to admit that I had tears in my eyes when it turned to full snow earlier, and I did think of the wishes sent to me...

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
