Can anyone tell me how to translate "Wind speed 10.0 m/s" into something that makes sense such as "miles per hour" please?I've now got the KB weather station feed which gives me excellent localised data, but I need to translate that wind speed! Is it metres per second or something? Guessing...http://www.geos.ed.ac.uk/abs/Weathercam/station/973 pressure and 7.5CBlawin a hoolie and splatting rain.(Excellent typo there of blawin a goolie :D

I'm guessing it's 10m a second so 10 x 60 = 600m per minute = 36,000m an hour or 36km an hour, so averaging about 22.3mph with higher gusts I'd imagine?

My hob extractor fan was actually leaking water this evening after that squall!  Water must have been driven through the vent.  That's never happened before!

Anyway nudging 40mph sustained winds here half an hour ago but died down a wee bit since.

Moon  is in conjunction with Jupiter tonight for those astronomy fans oot there.

From the Eumetrain site, couple of images, just to show the lovely cold air and convection pepping up.

WInd really winding up now, new hoose has a few more trees than the last so noise very strange, and lots of shrapnel flying around. Think dog is peeing in the garage later, as no walking in this.

Quite excited to wake up to snow that I didn't expect (although I know nothing about forecasting weather but I do read this thread every day!).

The husband says there's no snow 1 mile up the road so feeling lucky.

0.5oC here

That was the first night in a long time the wind has woken me up.

Got up all panicky....

Went downstairs.....

Into Kitchen....

Opened back door....

Gingerly peered outside....

THANK GOD - The Sky dish is still up.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
