Yes,it's going to be a wild ole day and in fact it already is for some, yes flooding will also be of concern but don't take your eyes of the threat of the wintry stuff.

Not that I especially expect either of those charts tomorrow to verify, there was some mention in certain circles via the BBC forecasters that you couldn't rule out some snow, in the usual prone locations etc.

On to more pressing issues, keep watch on the media updates, online sources, local radio reports if you are out and about today.

I express my Thanks too to AWD for a fantastic post from yesterday, which I've linked to again below. Posted Image

Morning, 11c, a bit damp and a bit windy but despite what the radar has been showing, not much rain has fallen here yet.

Valid to: 0600 on Tue 24 Dec 2013

Southwesterly gales and locally severe gales will continue across southern and eastern parts of England during Monday night, but are expected to strengthen further across parts of southeast England, in the Amber warning area, during the early hours of Tuesday, with gusts of 65-75 mph inland and 75-85 mph along exposed coasts. Rainfall is minimal here, 2.0mm. Forecast over an inch today though so I'd better not rule anything out.Looking at the radar, it looks like it is pepping up, and it does't look like it is moving very fast at all.

It is running in to an area of vortmax PVA (area of pink) so it will definitely pep up but I was expecting a lot more rain here by now, barely a few mm's also..post-15177-0-72592600-1387799048_thumb.g Edited by Mapantz

Our local forecast makes humble reading:

Posted Image METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT

Forecast for Jersey from noon today Monday 23 December 2013 until 6am tomorrow.

Weather :   Rain, becoming persistent and locally heavy, clearing before dawn to scattered showers.

Max :  12 °C Min :  8 °C UV Index : 1

Visibility :  Moderate to poor in rain, becoming good after midnight.

Wind :   South to southwest strong F7 to severe gale F9 with gusts to 60mph, increasing gale F8 to severe gale F9, locally storm F10 with gusts to 80mph, moderating after midnight.

Open Sea State :  Rough to very rough.

Forecast from 6am until 6pm tomorrow Tuesday.

Weather :   Fair periods and scattered showers.

Max : 10 °C

Wind :  Southwest to west strong F6 to gale F8, decreasing fresh F5 to strong F6 around midday

Also, they have issued a tide warning for our high tide at 10:47pm which incidentally is a mere 29ft although I am aware that with such strong winds progged for between 9pm and 1am tonight coupled with low pressure this could be considerably higher. Stay safe everyone Posted Image

Very very windy here three miles from the coast in the Forest...and we have to go out to work across the Forest in a minute! Not looking forward to the journey at all, but we can't let the old folk down (we are musical therapists/entertainers)

And now a code red storm warning issued through our local media:

Red Storm Warning For Jersey

A Red storm warning has been issued for Jersey.

The Met Office is forecasting force 10 winds tonight, with gusts to 80mph.

There will be heavy rain and a risk of structural damage and falling trees.

The official advice is to avoid being outside if you can.

The bad weather means a challenging Christmas getaway continues for hundreds of ferry passengers.

Condor had already cancelled today's fast sailings because of stormy weather.

Now the Clipper has been delayed by at least eight hours.

It means those travelling to Portsmouth won't arrive until 4.30pm on Christmas Eve afternoon.

And those travelling around the UK by road or rail are being warned to face further disruption.

27 rail operators have either cancelled or amended trains.
