The latest from Ian:

W COUNTRY As it stands, high chance dry on Xmas Day (a 10% chance of a shortwave trough into SW by end of day giving rain/sleet/hill snow).

Even if it turned out to be a transient couple of hours that didn't settle it would make Christmas very special indeed. Posted Image

Probably unlikely but certainly all to play for still.

Thhe current radar is quite reminiscent of shower tracks during the summer. A long line of them moving NEwards in a slowly eastward direction just on the other side of the Mendips. To the west however, clearer sky and here completely calm. Good chance of some thunder and lightning in certain places later.

Currently 11.2C with

12mm of rain here,  expected more if I'm honest - typical wet December day. Posted Image

16.8mm so far here, certainly looks like the south east could take the brunt of it, some bright colours lurking in the channel.

I've just had to set the rain variables on my station, the constant strong winds have been blowing the rain clear of the gauge is it has been under reading. My manual gauge shows 18.4mm for today, lucky I have that to rely on, as a vantage vie can be a pig because all the sensors are in one unit, you end up compromising a weather reading sometimes.

Incidentally, what is your December total so far?

Not sure what my December total is, I was working away and my Server was turned off so I'm missing some 7 days of Data, when it just happened to rain. Unfortunately my Weather station isn't historical, or at least I don't think it is.... Getting myself a thin client to run it on in next couple of weeks.

Total today is 22.1mm

Ah OK. I just need a few totals from around Dorset to compare with, so I can see if I'm far out or not

Just had a 20 second downpour here,  large convective drops, also, some hefty drizzards at times. Up to 20.4mm :)

Local station to me reading 16mm of rain so far today so I think areas south east got the worst so far.

Local forecast suggests rain turning wintry over night after main front clears through although nothing on bbc graphics except far north.

Very mild at the moment 9c

New Year resolution is to keep better records! Forgot to empty my gauge so I can't help but looking at your total and the radar which I have been following all day it wouldn't surprise me to see an inch recorded around the Poole area.

12 and 24hr accumulation maps seem to tie in with my manual gauge. My Davis is fine when it isn't mega windy but at 4.5m high,  rain readings can get skewed, so I use a manual gauge to offset my Davis just in case it isn't reading correctly.

24.6mm here, not too shabby!

The weather pro app has put out an amber warning for wind for here, they do their own independent warnings, hence the yellow ones for wind now. I find them to be quite accurate. Posted Image

Not the worst raincast this year, but it looks like the YTS student is back on the BBC maps - this morning's output showed rain supposed to clear around lunchtime, so delayed going out until after lunch. Of course, it then rained until 4pm.

Getting very blowy out there again after a largely calm day. Rain not far away.

Yes I have the App for my iPhone. Only problem is it takes the readings locally from Bournemouth Airport which is out in a big open space inland, so quite often gets a lot colder than here.

Squall line just passing over now.  Seems to have narrowed somewhat in the last hour or so.

Well that was rubbish. Moderate rain for 10-15 minutes and now it's passed.

very gusty here at the moment as the squall passes over, moderate rain, but nothing to write home about.

Calm before the storm tomorrow, definitely looking forward to Monday Posted Image
