With no warnings issued to the Eastern half of the country. Does this mean that this storm with skirt around the top of Scotland. With the eastern side of the country & south-east becoming largely unaffected by the damaging gusts.

Anyone got any idea what it will be like in Stratford (West Midlands), the forecast is 60mph gusts, but no warnings??? very confused.

It will be very windy and very wet for a time but it shouldn't cause too many problems.

It's interesting isn't it. Just been looking around xcweather and max gusts predicted Doncaster 67 mph but not warning. Places on the Western coast with less but warnings issued. East midlands 62mph. no warning. XCweather takes it from GFS so perhaps thats the reason why.

Wow, I wasn't quite expecting it to deepen quite this fast, and I don't think the models did either! GFS has it at 960mb at 19:00, and it's a few millibars deeper than that with over two hours to go.

Down here in the south it's also windier than anticipated. Gusting to 35mph here and I can see some exposed areas seeing 60mpg before it's finished.

Very impressive Sat pics

Here in the south-west, winds been picking up all day

Quite nasty out there, Wind & Rain

Can hear the wind from inside (on the North coast, so actually have some shelter from a south wind)

This is going to pack quite a punch

Should be fun to see if any convective winds bring higher gusts down to ground level, i'm expecting to see somewhat of a squall on the back-edge of the front following the sudden temperature drop that's expected. Snow showers look also promising across Cheshire given the beeb's latest forecast.

A real intense band of rain crossing Wales and Cornwall currently. Probably 100mm+/h rain rates?

I was waiting for my bus in SE Wales.. and the wind was picking up .. fairly gloomy skies.. What I didn't expect were the size of the rain drops. There weren't many but any we got were typical of those you would find in a hot summers day Thunderstorm.

For those wanting to know how it might affect their area tonight, here's a few of my bookmarks that you might want to keep an eye on through this evening and beyond to monitor how things are progressing on their way to your region:

Not so sure, pressure still dropping like a stone..

I'm only just on a yellow warning with 60 to 70mph gusts expected on the coast. It is moving through quickly, wind direction and trees not in leaf probably all make a difference to warnings.

Just had my first gust to 50mph from a SSE direction ever. Never had anything like it from the E or S.

Winds will pick up markedly as the cold front moves in, strongest gusts just ahead of the front and as it passes through. Quite an intense few hours.

Max gust here 37mph got back door open while I dry the washing. Going as expected mostly although I think everything is a good bit further south than expected.

Isn't just me then? Mention of a few embedded thunderstorms for good measure earlier too. Very squally indeed.

Is it something in your water ;)

Isn't that the predicted gust overlay though?

Me too, yellow at the very least.

Gosh, just realized that on December 24th 2013 it may gust 70mph in the Midlands! Shame I will be on holiday to miss it, nothing to see like that in Dubai.

I think the storm will be fairly quick so maybe that's why there is no warning here?
