Train station in Cork city is closed due to roof damage, presumably from the storm. Plenty of power outages beginning to appear across the west and south of Ireland now too.

EDIT: 69mph gust recorded in Cork Airport.

Buoy oh buoy, I mean boy oh boy that's bombogenesis in action methinks. Posted Image

Not rapid cyclogenesis yet:

What is explosive cyclogenesis?

This is basically the same as normal cyclogenesis, but it happens very rapidly, and very vigorously. That is, a depression can seemingly form from nothing in a very short space of time, often becoming a very vicious storm in a matter of hours.

The general term used for these rapidly deepening depressions, is a ‘bomb’. The strict definitions of this, is a low pressure centre which deepens by 24mb in 24hrs, or less. These happen frequently throughout the Atlantic, and several times a year, we see this happening pretty close to the UK. It’s only in recent years that such things have been better understood, and indeed, before the 1987 storm across southern England, meteorological models hardly had the signature of explosive cyclogenesis incorporated within them.

Breeze beginning to pick up again after going calm for awhile after lunchtime. Interestingly the forecast I saw earlier hinted that there could well be isolated snow and hail showers across the midlands and southern England tomorrow!

With darkness approaching, this is probably the last of the sequence, but here's the last couple of hours radar images:

quite a large amount of damage , was that building quite dilapidated ?....

Some was quite old, but I didn't think dilapidated.

Unfortunately, it seems there was at least 1 injury from it and fire crews are searching through the rubble.

Is it me or is everything a lot further south and later than predicted. The map Burntfishies says different. XCweather shows very little activity away from the south west. Originally it was 18:00 when things should start get interesting we shall see.

Rainfall also pepping up in the Sw and Irish Sea...several distinct bands of squally rain, odd local sferic can't be ruled out in any heavier bursts - could there be the odd report of a tornado later? As the whole lot sweeps further eastwards and onwards.Certainly a fast evolving situation with plenty to keep tabs on!110kmh...orange hues nw of Ireland!http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=-7.66,52.38,1349

Yep get wild out in the Atlantic... But also look South some orange showing there now???

112kph now in the Atlantic, roughly increasing 1kph every 10 minutes which is slightly worrying.
