BBC are really hyping this storm up now which has come out of nowhere...

Only if you've been asleep for the last four days LOL

Winds dropped at little bit here after a peak around just before eight. Noisy in the Sheffield Uni's Arts Tower I wonder what speed the windows are rated at.

Looks lively on my webcams http://www.sheffieldweather.co.uk/Live%20Weather.htm

Real stuff still to north of us.

Some real violent gusts coming through now, and I'm not venturing outside with my anemometer again to get sand blasted!! repeated gusts up to and around 70mph, not quite as bad as it is north of the border though.

100mph Winds As Homes Lose Power

Gusts of more than 100mph are battering parts of the UK, with trains cancelled across Scotland and 20,000 homes without power.

A total of 25 severe flood warnings - meaning there is a danger to life - have been issued by the Environment Agency, 24 of them for the Anglian region.

Areas most at risk include the North Sea coast from Northumberland down to the Thames Estuary and Kent. At present, there are more than 100 flood warnings and 59 flood alerts in place.

As winds got stronger - with a gusts of 106mph recorded at Glenogle in Stirlingshire - Network Rail Scotland said Glasgow Central station had been evacuated "due to debris smashing glass in the roof", although it said no one had been hurt.

Flights are being cancelled at Edinburgh Airport due to high winds, which have also prompted the closure of the Forth Road Bridge.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has 11 flood warnings and 13 flood alerts in place, most of them for the north and east of the country.

What a Picture.

The imbedded picture, that lorry driver won't be doing that again soon! There's a pretty high drop off the Friarton Bridge and not much of a barrier to stop anything. Utter madness to have even attempted to go over it.

Reports on local news here of a lot of trees down - Great North Road in Newcastle has had a few felled trees which blocked the road.   Transport disruption becoming more widespread too - the effects of Scotland taking a battering so routes towards and over the border badly affected.

Did BBC news say 114mph gust reported in Scotland??

The 114mph gust was at Aonach mor, in Highlands at 1130m so up a mountain, but still it has been wild and all the trains are off in Scotland, sunny here now but norhtern England is getting it

The high tides run from around lunchtime in Kent to 3pm Wash and late afternoon in Northumberland.

Crunch time will be the worst winds and pressure late lunchtime.
