Just heard that the Church Marshes, Sittingbourne - Sheerness area of Swale have started getting the phone calls from the Environment Agency warning of severe flooding and possible evacuation.

The 2am High Tide could be the one that overtops onto the roads along the SOS Seafront, this does not co-inside with the Strongest winds but the funnelling effect and the fact the Thames Barrier will still be closed could play a major part, probably best viewed from the Cliffs Pavillion if anyone knows the area, the defences near the Casino (On Stilts) are as someone else pointed out non-existant so the beach could end up on the road Posted Image

Might take a trek down there in the early hours but not expecting much to happen here like it is likely to do further up the essex coast near Jaywick for example.

I know it very well. My mum and dad live above mama mia so they should have a good view of anything coming over the top.

Oooops! Just heard an almighty BANG! upstairs and the loft hatch door has blown down onto the landing. Luckily, neither the young un nor the cats were underneath. :)

The sun has ventured forth for a bit, but it's still very windy with a heck of a wind chill.

Esbjerg, Denmark calling.........the storm has got worse as the day has progressed, quite a few bridges have been closed (quite major in Denmark as the country is effectively split into 3 parts with water/bridges connecting them) so traveling is not good at the moment.

We have had horizontal rain and also quite an intense hail storm - things looked white for a while but with the rain and wind it soon melted.

It is actually quite difficult to stand on the quay side and just about all the heavy equipment has been removed or placed into the sheds/buildings where they can fit - how ever wind turbine parts are too big so they have moved them away from the quay side but it is expected to be flooding later.

Some of the buildings have had the windows blown in which is quite astonishing taking into consideration that they are double glazed, the office I’m in looks over the port and our windows are really flexing in the wind – quite unnerving.

The guys offshore on the rigs are having a bit of a time at the moment - the rigs are moving around quite a bit and the waves quite high.

All in all I have been in quite a few storms around the world and have to admit that the gusts and intensity of this storm is quite surprising.

Right signing off for now as got to make my way back to the hotel and pack ready for my flight home tomorrow – hopefully that will be okay.

Don't know what all the fuss is about.. Sitting here in my Ascot office hardly a breeze outside Posted Image

Maybe it's just me but I fail to see the funny side of that when folk are currently being evacuated and their homes and businesses are threatened with flooding.

It's come over really dark here at work (London Southbank) - had some very strong sounding gusts of wind this afternoon too (of the Mother Nature variety!)  Nothing of course compared to what up North and Scotland have had though.

I hope those who are under the flood watch in the next 24 hours are OK in this region and things aren't as bad as expected.

Is it me or is the wind actually quite warm? I must admit I didn't think we'd feel the wind as much as we are down here.

On the school run about 3:15pm, caught in squally wind and intense downpour.  On the opposite side of the road to what I was driving, a tree came down, straight across the road.  It caught a car underneath but luckily across the bonnet so no-one was hurt.  It's blocked the whole road though and as it's a dual carriageway with barriers down the central reservation there is a tailback forming already.

Impressive Squall just came through on the Cold Front with miniscule Hail mixed in, Temp dropped from 10c to 5c in a matter of minutes, very windy but now all blown through.

Afternoon all

Bit blowy here all day too, some persistant but not exceptionally heavy rain for a short period as the squally band passed through, did get rather dark though, feeling cold out too but that is more the wind than anything.

Saw a big tree down on the way home, sorry, no pics as I was driving at the time.

Hows everyone on here, all safe and well I hope.

I am glad to see that comment that you replied to by Surrey has been deleted, most inappropriate considering that two people have lost their lives  and many people could be homeless due to flooding

Hi everyone! Hubby is at Barking station and has seen a train go through spraying something onto the rails, antifreeze of some sort perhaps? How cold is it going to get?

that could either be the leaf buster which sprays a jet of water at certain locations where there is a leaf problem or it could be as you say, a de-icer which sprays a thin liquid onto the third rail to stop it icing up

ps   that squall line has now reached thanet

Thanks PT, I'd forgotten about leaves on the line!! How could I ever forget! Certainly breezy enough to send accumulations onto the line.

Here too (well, the screaming kids are inside not outside, but that's another story).
