I'm afraid it does look a brief affair for Ireland.Maybe squeeze a cm or two before it quickly shifts East.

It lasts three days. Brief to me is about 12 hours. Edited by smithyweather

Why do they never mention NI on the model thread? They keep going on and on about NE England and how they are going to get all this snow when NE England isn't even that far north. This will be a North Westerly airmass so there will be more showers here! Ewgh.

Ok so this mornings round up.The cold spell begins on Thursday and lasts through Friday and Saturday. It is longer and colder than the last one so if all of us in NI don't see any snow cover then we need a kick up the a r s e. It does not look that good for southern ireland as it is more of an easterly progression so the cold uppers kind of by pass them.Maximum temps:Thursday - 2cFriday - 1cSaturday -1Those temps should sustain any snow cover.

This is what the irish met office people say.

Temperatures will climb to 8 or 9 degrees during the day but will fall sharply during the night to between -2 and +1 degrees, with frost and icy patches forming. The wintry precipitation is likely to continue on Friday, with parts of the north and higher ground once again most at risk. A very cold day with highs of only 2 to 5 degrees. The cold conditions look like lasting into next weekend with very low daytime temperatures and some bitterly cold and frosty nights, but it should become dry on Saturday and Sunday.

Still low single figure maxes for us in NI on Sunday so if any snow comes I can't see it melting.

Smithy, the cold might last three days but we only have a 24 hour window for snowfall.

Well all I want is cold and if we get a decent covering of snow on Thursday night/Friday morning it will not melt because max temps are just a wee nudge above 0c.

Actually the snow starts on Thursday morning and does not finish until Saturday morning so that would be 48 hours.

Indeed MS - lets just see were we are come Tuesday before we get our hopes up too much frosty joe

Hopes up for what. The cold spell is on all 3 models, we are down for 1c maxes for 4 days. What more could you ask for? Before 2010 that would be the coldest part of the winter.

Smithy the 18z still doesn't offer much snow, the coldest uppers miss us and away from higher ground mostly sleet, rain and a lot of wind.

Don't know how you can get sleet with -9c uppers but whatever. Amateurs.

Don't care anymore, so fed up of being drawn in by models for mega cold spells only for them to downgrade massively a few days before they come. Friggen crap.

And them stupid mildy people make it worse by winding everyone up. Ewgh.

Think 2010 was just a disaster in the making because no cold spell will ever be good enough now. I'm trumatised for life.

Gonna be an awful winter I think.
