Met Eireann have now updated their orange weather warning to include a snow/ice warning for 23rd and 24th December.

Wind Warning for Countrywide
Stormy overnight and on Christmas Eve with showers of hail, sleet and snow!

Very strong southwest winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 80 km/hr with gusts of 100 to 130 km/hr. Winds will be strongest in coastal counties.

Wintry showers of hail, sleet or snow with icy conditions on some roads.

Looks like over the next 12-24hrs some will get everything but the kitchen sink thrown at them. We may not be experiancing any cold spell atm but this is very much nteresting weather.

Have been a lurker on this forum for a while. Sunny and crisp here today, soon to change over the next 6-12 hours

Welcome BMA. You're arriving at an interesting time. Yes, coastal regions will bear the brunt, but it looks as if everyone will be affected, even those of us hidden behind the Castlereagh Hills. Edited by skywatcher

Coastal regions going to get the brunt of this storm?

welcome bma, couldn't have picked a better time to join up.

another torrential downpour here, a wee bit of sleetynis in it but not much, flooding more of a concern at the moment.

Not to be rude but the uppers are far far too warm to have sleetyness in the rain.

The cold air will arrive at 9pm. Of which they won't be very cold but in this situation it doesn't really matter. Looking forward to the snow coming.

ever so slightly, more haily than anything because of the intensity of the downpours.

the snow will have great difficulty settling unless the ground partially freezes, it's far too wet at the moment.

hmm well theres still patches of snow higher up. Erm I honestly don't think it would be too hard for the snow to lie if it gets going because (at least here) the last few days have barely nudged above freezing.

It is looking like a mixed bag but I think high ground will do really well.

Surprised met eireann haven't when to red alert? This storm is stronger than the one that hit them last week when they were under a red alert.

Winds starting to pick up here.

stay safe out there, especially if you have to drive. atrocious conditions here, torrential rain and strong and gusty winds.

Not much to report here on the east coast. A bit windy, no precipitation. Nothing special… I am expecting fireworks later though!

Hopefully things will liven up later on and in the morning.

Going by the NAE dew points are forecast to be below zero by midnight. Upper air temps are forecasted to be around the -4 mark at midnight too.
