I note that the NWS is predicting a severe weather event this afternoon for parts of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan, including the Indianapolis Metro.  They also predict that the event may extend east and south into Ohio and Kentucky later on.

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html

Storms, straight-line winds, hail and tornadoes are the main risks.  SPC updating their Day One forecast in 20 minutes - we may then see a PDS watch issued later this afternoon.

1300z SPC Day One outlook update has slightly increased the high risk area to include a larger part of Illinois, Ohio and Michigan, including the Metro areas of Chicago, Dayton, Fort Wayne and Lansing.

Four Tornado warnings across central Illinois - from the Missouri border north to Pontiac and Peru.  The one north of Pontiac looks like it's heading right towards the Chicago Metro area.

You can follow progress of developing squall line on this radar, later use navigation arrows to follow it further east:

http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/radar.php?rid=ind&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no

This appears likely to accelerate now to 00z and cover a lot of ground through IN and OH, s MI and sw ON. But it will evolve from a line of tornadic supercells into a squall line with widespread damaging gusts as low pressure over Lake Michigan deepens towards 970 mb tonight and the entire system loses daytime heating but acquires even stronger upper level wind parameters. Widespread gusts to 70 mph likely as the squall line races northeast but still a major tornadic threat now to about 21z across Indiana. Recent report behind the developing squall line from STL shows sustained 45 mph gusting 60 in a clear westerly flow.

Severe Weather Alert Issued For US Midwest

A fast-moving weather system is threatening up to 53 million people across the US Midwest, the National Weather Service has warned. One tornado touchdown has already been reported, and there is potential for dangerous winds and thunderstorms across 10 states, weather officials say. "We obviously have a very dangerous situation on our hands and it's just getting started," said Laura Furgione, deputy director of the National Weather Service. Forecasters say there is a possibility of intense tornadoes, large hail up to two inches in diameter, and damaging wind gusts.

Winds reaching speeds of more than 80mph are possible near the watch area. A large tornado has touched down outside Peoria, Illinois, meteorologists said. The Ravens' game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field has been temporarily suspended in the first quarter due to lightning in the area. As a precautionary measure, stadium officials are clearing the stands of fans.
