Very rare I say anything positive about the Government but they are getting this right http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24967230

I suspect that for the NHS this will encourage them to close ranks even more and like the police make the chances of a jail sentence zero.

For private homes this hopefully make them sit up and take notice.

Private homes aside I'm not sure about this. The government chose to ignore certain aspects of the report such as adequate staffing levels.

Peter Carter, general secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, said a law change on its own was "not a panacea".

He added that legally enforced staffing levels would have a far greater impact on patient care, as they had in Australia and California.

I'm inclined to agree

Quite. It seems to me the government are intent on tackling the result not the cause. It smacks of deflecting attention away from those who have created the fractured culture in the NHS in the first place who are of course the incompetents in the cabinet.

Even with adequate staffing levels if the management is bad problems will still occur. It's a step in the right direction and more can always be added later.

That's the problem. I don't think more needs to be added. Ensure adequate staffing levels which means decent pay and most importantly decent conditions of service and sort out the mangement structure if it's faling which it patently is in many cases. There are some hospitals out there that run a happy, extremely efficient, tight ship. Pop along and see how they do it. It's a strange fact of life that those at the coal face often know the best way forward.

I was thinking off staffing levels beign a legal requirement rather than a guideline.
