Really foggy at the moment. How I love a nice walk out on a foggy evening :) everything is so peaceful and quiet. Not a lot beats it.

from what I can see Tuesday night might be very icy as there are going to be clear skies across most of the country with little wind.

All I can think about is all the scraping!

I'm finding it difficult to get excited about the possibility of a bit of sleet later this week especially with what's going on in other places - my thoughts are with those people who haven't got a bed to sleep in tonight !

your absolutely right ,it certainly puts things into perspective & makes you realise just how lucky we are x

Does anyone know, is it warm in the eye of a tornado, or cold?

Hi JennyJane1,

The air inside a tornado is cooler than its surroundings. This is not due to the wind or the fact that it comes from the sky, but from the fact that the pressure in a tornado is low. As air enters a tornado it is decompressed rapidly, and cools as a consequence. This is predicted by gas laws. In many cases the temperature inside a tornado is less than the dew point, which is why the funnel forms.

Regards, Yamkin

Now there's a great idea and evidence would have to be a flash photo out of the window with the regulation lamppost.

I have been to Whipsnade Zoo today and up there on the downs it was really misty to almost fog until mid afternoon with everything dripping wet, even the animals stayed insidePosted Image .

Yes agree these set ups can change very quickly.

We have new LED lamp posts now not good for snow watching.... So I have installed a 400 watt floodlight :)

Morning all, hope everybody is well, and those who it applies to are fit and ready for another weeks adventure at work. This week is a horrible one for me involving 3 visits to our Peterborough office (do you think I should let them know or let it be a nice? surprise), for an interview, and 2 totally different meetings.

Today off to Harlow to welcome our new contract manager to the company, poor sod dosen't know what will hit him, but it will all be his fault, also interviewing new accounts company, which could be interesting, but firstly got to go to doctors at 6:45 for my flu jab, I didn't even know they opened that time in the morning. Will update the weather related bit on my return with a throbbing arm, see us man we can take the pain! No I can't, had small prick (in arm, I know I read the previous innuendos and I ain't falling for that) :-), and it's now gone stiff (oh bugger fallen for it).

Weather related stuff, its dark out, slight drizzle and warm at 8c, looking at those tornados and storms in America they look like they have just missed where our friends live, think I better email them and make sure their newly repaired roof is still where it's meant to be. Going to see them out there in late June early July so hope weather will be ok, just assumed it will be hot and sticky.

Nearly time to depart for my lovely trip to Harlow, let's hope the weather gets more seasonal this week, as I want to win the cup, something that being a Charlton supporter would be a very rare achievement :-)

Morning all,

Thanks to all of you that pm'd me and posted asking to be entered for the competition. Any of you not entered yet, there's still time. I'll talk to Chris (Mantle) regarding what format we're going to use and the cut-off point for entering. Owing to the large number of entries I'm wondering if we should split the region in two initially, i.e north of the Thames and south of the Thames, with the members recording most snow in their respective region, meeting in a Grand Final, to decide the overall winner in the SE region. Below is the updated list, including all of you who entered via post/pm, last night/this morning and my initial post from yesterday evening.

"Here are the names of the members who took part in last Winters Snow Depth Cup and a few who want to be included this year. Might be better to let me know if you DONT want to take part in this Winters competition, by pm or post, hopefully most members will want to this Winter.

Want to know numbers first and will then decide on the format to use. It will probably be a number of "mini leagues" initially and then a knockout phase, later in the Winter.

Those of you in the list, could you please check that I have your details correct. Those of you who arent in the list, could you please let me know if you want to enter and I'll gladly include you.

Chris Mantle is kindly helping me by sorting out a spreadsheet for me, saves pen and paper, shame he doesnt know yet, only joking! Thanks again Chris!

Those with asterisks against their name, could you please give me a more specific location".

Morning regionaires!

Grey, grim and grotty out there today, much like yesterday but still - ever onwards!

Tomorrows potential short snow event still very much on the cards for some in our patch according to Carol

Kirkwood on the BBC this morning, but GFS has wiped it from it's memory on the overnight run, in fact it has a clear and sunny day...

Posted Image

So who knows what is coming then? Well again GFS now has some chances for a few on Thursday:

Met O really showing nothing this week in the way of white stuff:

NMM only have a brief window and very confined area over Portsmouth on Thursday, so a 'no show' from them:

Doesn't look great for those looking for snow, but it looks like it will get colder from later this afternoon, so wrap up warm!

Hi Blackprince,

You're in the updated list, thanks. Thats 93 members now, I'm going to split the list into members north of the Thames, south of the Thames, should make it a little easier to keep tabs on. Just waiting to hear from Chris (Mantle), he's kindly putting a spreadsheet together for me, on where we go from here.

I noticed the huge display of snow shovels and salt-free de-icing compound was still full at the local branch of a large national supermarket chain at the weekend. I don't think the general public are convinced just yet.
