Appears that way. It is difficult to demonstrate skill over the mid-latitudes, that's for sure! You can see the H500 anomalies here, very bland almost everywhere:

http://gmao.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/products/climateforecasts/GEOS5/atmos_monthly_masked.cgi?var1=oct&var2=2013&var3=glb&var4=h500&var5=sea&var6=October

Monthlies are here:

http://gmao.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/products/climateforecasts/GEOS5/atmos_monthly_masked.cgi?var1=oct&var2=2013&var3=glb&var4=h500&var5=mon&var6=October

Some signal for a blocked February, but with the masking applied this does look less-so.

Interesting stuff anyway.

I see what you mean. I found lots of broken links there. Even if you google "NASA seasonal forecast" the first link that comes up gives an error.

Try this

http://gmao.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/products/climateforecasts/GEOS5/index_atmos.cgi

This is odd. I clicked it and got an error. Hit refresh and it worked.

Still doesn't work so it must be an internal error within NASA'S site, all that ruddy funding and they still have network errors.Posted Image

Blocked where exactly?..cant be over Greenland as it is colder then normal over the eastern flank of Canada which would mean low pressure over Greenland pulling North to North west winds across eastern Canada... looks like blocking over Germany pushing warm winds up the north west flank of Norway into the arctic north of Scandinavia?

Moscow is struggling to get any cold still

Record-breaking ‘heat wave’ recorded in Moscow

A warm spell in Moscow broke a record on Tuesday as temperatures climbed to 14.9 degrees Celsius – the highest since 1895, forecasters say.

Until Tuesday, the highest temperature ever recorded on October 29 was 14.8 degrees, RIA Novosti reported citing the Fobos weather center.

Unusually high temperatures hit Moscow this week, exceeding the norm by 5-8 degrees. Cooler weather is expected by the weekend, with highs around 7-12 degrees, but that is also above average.

This year’s fall weather has already broken records, with September getting three times the average amount of rainfall, more than ever recorded in 130 years of observation.

If the ECM run is right expect a massive cool down Summer Sun.

Seeing some similarities from this year and 2010. Seems we are still in the pattern of recent winters. I see nothing to suggest otherwise!!!

I want cold as much as the next person but it's not going to get cold here until Europe has cooled. Moscow is getting a heatwave at the moment.

Moscow was just as warm in 2010 this time of year. This year beat it by 0.3°.

Get ready for the inevitable mentions of Global Warming/climate change on here and in the media if the current projections in the strat thread turn out to be accurate....

looks too amazing!!! Fingers crossed eh?!

this is how I would read they charts and how I would see the east of Canada still being cold with a Greenland high in place

the chart I commented on

Not an absolute Murr special but still excellent and the best from the 6z suite.

This November is really like 09/10 although it's actually colder right now than it was then. I think after the 22nd we will see a big change in the weather. Once Europe cools we will cool too. There must be so much cold air bottled up to the north of us.

Anyone else feeling excited?
