Interesting day with several soft hail showers and even a rumble of thunder.Wind was light enough that it felt warm in the sun.I saw a bumble bee out and about despite air temperature around 5C.Hovering around freezing now.

A cloudy damp start for the NE but this cloud will move west during the day so something brighter especially along the east coast later on

Clearer sky has made it to parts of the east coast now the likes of redcar and Whitby should see some blue sky before the day is out how far the brighter weather makes it inland before dusk remains to be seen

The best of tomorrow's weather looks to be in the morning/early afternoon before a

small LP coming in from the East turns things unsettled later in the day.

Maybe some snow on the highest parts of the region.

Yeah, could be some sleet and snow around tonight over the high ground and again tomorrow before a change to something warmer for the weekend

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Friday the cold, brisk wind persists and there is a chance of showers or longer spells of rain. Saturday and Sunday mainly dry, breezy, some sunshine and becoming warmer.

Plenty of rain coming in off the north sea but so far its all south of the region allowing some decent sunny spells to develop here

Another frost this morning, we've had more frost this month than during the whole 3 months of December, January and February.

Quite pleasant in the sunshine despite a nagging easterly, however, things have turned decidedly chilly this evening and if we do manage some heavy showers I wouldn't be surprised to see a few sleety wet snowflakes mixed in, whilst the fells should get another coating.

If these synoptics had occurred a couple of months ago, much of the country would be sub-freezing. Still its always pleasing to see the atlantic beaten, its a rare set up to see a low pressure system moving westwards over the country having started life in the Baltic Sea.

Been a long time since we have seen some convective activity coming in off the North Sea.

Some of the showers have been hefty with the odd bit of sleet and hail thrown in.

Happy to see no snow here last night right on the coastline, plenty of hefty hail showers though hammering off the windows and waking me several times..!

yr.no's  forecast for the region for the next 8 days it doesn't look too bad TBH yes some days will have cloud and temperatures will be lower than the south this weekend but at least we should see some sunshine before possibly getting some rain later next week

Could be some heavy bursts at times in between the showers it should brighten up
