Yep things CURRENTLY looking good for our region, even this weekend looks a cold one we are under -4/-5 uppers should stay dry though

Im hoping it stays clear tonight for the small chance of seeing the northern lights

http://cumbriansky.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/northern-lights-visible-from-the-uk-tonight-maybe-possibly-perhaps/

The met are forecasting clear sky's all night here in Darlo with temps dropping down to 2 or 3c so the chance of seeing the northern lights is looking possible

As you say the weekend looks cold with overnight frosts likely

Saturday and Sunday, mostly dry and bright, after overnight frosts. Winds lighter, but strengthening again late Sunday, with outbreaks of rain, and hill snow, spreading from the west on Monday.

Gorgeous day outside,

It's just a shame that we don't have an easterly to look forward to anymore. Following the model thread is such a headache its so easy to get sucked into great output, even when we know its still too far away to be certain, its disappointing when it's not going to happen and its another delay for the chance of some winter,

The sunshine is doing wonders to cheer me up on that front though, although into next week looks a bit dreary Posted Image

To quote Bob Johnson, next week is looking "dreich"

The place is like a swamp as it is,so any more rain is not welcome, especially

for flooded southerners.

A cold night with a widespread ground frost this morning

Its looking very likely now most parts of the region a lowish levels will get to the half way point (Tuesday 14th) of winter snow free

The forecast fog for today has not arrived instead the sun is breaking through :)

Today has turned out easily the coldest day of the winter so far for many parts of the region. It shows what a ridge and clear skies at this time of year can produce under what are not particularly cold uppers. The next couple of days will deliver fairly average temperatures with further frosts and maxima around 4-6 degrees. Pity it won't last, but compared to recent weeks it at least feels like winter now.

Ice warning out for all of the NE

Issued at: 1052 on Mon 13 Jan 2014

Valid from: 1700 on Mon 13 Jan 2014

Valid to: 1000 on Tue 14 Jan 2014

A combination of clear spells and light winds will allow road temperatures to fall below freezing on Monday evening across northwestern parts of the UK, and then overnight and into Tuesday morning further south and east. This will allow icy stretches to form on untreated surfaces. The public are advised to take extra care and be aware of the risk of some minor travel disruption.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Following rain or showers on Monday, clearing skies will allow road temperatures to fall below freezing quite widely on Monday evening and night, leading to icy stretches on untreated surfaces which will last well into Tuesday morning. In addition, further showers may affect parts of Scotland, northern England and North Wales overnight which may lead to wash-off of earlier road treatment, enhancing the risk of ice formation. These showers could also give some accumulations of snow on routes above about 300m. There is some uncertainty over the timing of clearance of cloud and rain towards the southeastern boundary of the yellow area, and hence also the risk of ice, so this warning may be adjusted later Monday or overnight.

I've given up on low-level snow this year. All I want now is a decent fall on the Pennines so I can take the kids up there for some fun.
