The region could be primed to be in the best position for low level snow from Tuesday evening projected feature. Our region will have the best chance compared to the rest of England and Wales being under coldest uppers with no off-shore wind to moderate things... its a developing situation.

Reading his posts, you'd think this was the Darlo thread, rather than the Far North thread. Posted Image

The Darlo/High Pressure/warm/no snow/thread.

Get it right haha!

It seems this will be a "wait and see" situation.

I'm sure some of us will get some surprises ... While Darlington remains dry, warm and sunny Posted Image

Looks like into Wednesday we may see some wintry stuff across the region but it will rapidly turn to rain Tuesday looks the coldest day the rest of the week should have temps around 5c for the region which is chilly to too warm for snow

Tomorrow is the change day, Tuesday only 1 or 2C at best,
I wonder if we'll get above 10C again this year.
(10.1C today!)

Yes a transition to colder weather will take place during tomorrow cloudy and wet tomorrow morning before clearer weather moves down and that will start the cold spell.

Tuesday looks the coldest day this week 3c max a low levels in the major towns and cities

As for 10c I will say yes we will get above it again this year maybe not at 4wd's elevation but for the towns and cities yes

Looks like showers running down the coast on Tuesday which will be the coldest day we have had since March.

Maybe places like Scarborough getting a dusting.

Mmm the chances of any significant snow at low levels now look quite slim - indeed snow cover looks reserved for higher ground.

Elevation and intensity of precipitation will determine which parts of the region see snow falling and indeed lying from Monday night through until Thursday.

There are two opportunities as I see it for the region. The first will be overnight Monday into Tuesday morning but only for Cumbria, snow showers will have developed over western scotland during tomorrow, any heavy ones which make there way into Cumbria I would imagine will deposit snow down to quite low levels possibly even 100 metres, though any settling snow likely to be reserved for ground above 250m. We must remember soil temperatures are high at present.

The next opportunity will affect the whole region and will be on Wednesday due to the frontal features moving in from the NW. I suspect ground below 200m will struggle to see much other than the odd wet snowflake as uppers will be too high even if evaporative cooling takes effect, however, ground above 300m should see heavy snow falling, with 450m probably the snowline for settling snow, perhaps lower where the precipitation is heaviest. There is a chance of some back edge snow down to quite low levels but it is likely to be shortlived.

Ground above 450m will certainly get a decent cover of snow and this will stick for the rest of the week- so if you want to guarantee seeing snow under your feet next week best probably to head into the Pennines or Cumbrian fells.

As ever some low spots could get lucky. Higher towns such as Consett, Tow Law and Alston may be about to see there first snow cover of the season.

Temperatures dropped like a stone late this evening, with ice forming quickly by 7pm under clear skies. It now looks like we will see no showers overnight. Tomorrow should be a lovely cold crisp November day with frost very slow to lift and rapidly reforming by dusk - only for cloud to creep in later in the night to spoil things with rain and snow reserved for highest ground.

I'm hopeful come Friday we will see a return to cold sunny frosty weather setting us up for a crisp weekend.

An early frost this evening before cloud, wind and rain (maybe some temporary wintery stuff on high ground) sweeps in overnight

The mornings frost could be the last one on a morning till Thursday the next 2 nights are pretty much ruled out with cloud and or rain (an early frost tonight but it won't be around when we all get up in the morning)
