Possible Storm This Weekend Discussion

In terms of warnings last week we had amber warnings and 40mph winds for late Sunday.

This weeks 90mph winds and yellow warnings.

It did appear early on Sunday last week that western areas could have been downgraded to yellow wanrings, but they played it safe. (nothing wrong with that)

IMO the Met Offiice were right in issuing amber warnings last week for SE England, but there should have been amber warnings for Western areas today.

It does feel as if the worst has passed, and winds spreds should ease back as they swing round to more of a Westerly direction.

Winds dropped away after a heavy shower.  XCweather downgraded the winds slightly for tonight. The rain maybe the talking point tonight.

Those in S Wales can see why the winds are moderating on the image below. Winds becoming more W'ly to WNW'ly. You can also see the issues parts of NW England may face later on this evening

I wouldn't rule out 80mph being recorded around Crosby-Southport area and perhaps an 85mph somewhere like Capel Curig.

The Met Office has warned of gusts of 50-60 mph, 70 mph

along exposed coasts.

On Twitter Dyfed Powys Police said they are receiving "a

high volume of calls reporting trees down and other damage caused by high winds".

It's still blowing a gale across the Malverns. Much stronger than anything last week, here, that is, not comparing it to elsewhere.

I agree 100% with ya mate was it any worse on the south coast last week no and this seems to be effecting more of the country

Yes it WAS worse on the South Coast last week! I know because I saw it!! Neighbours greenhouse didn't just lose a few panes of glass but was blown across their garden! I personally saw at least 10 trees down in a half mile area of my own town and also saw one snapped off 5 feet from the ground and the rest of the tree going through the roof of my friends extension. Next time be sure of your facts. the next day I was on a bus and saw so many trees down but no it wasn't anything like as bad as '87 and neither is today's storm anything like as bad. Oh and by the way, the storm here lasted well over 6 hours at the height of it last week.

Amazing, wind has completely stopped in the space of 2 mins.

You're near to the centre of the low , the 'eye of the storm' if you like, the winds are always lightest there.

Take Monday, we went with barely a breath of wind all day, yet 100 miles south is was severe gales.

Much windier here than anything we had last weekend. Gusty showers too, and feels chilly. Gusting close to 50mph.
