I'm in Pencoed and getting rather nervous as we've got some big trees around us, is this set to worsen?

Yes ..thinks its set to peak around 1800-2000 ..my summer house will be in Cardiff by then I think !

Thunder n lightening here

Same here, torrential rain, sleet, tress bent double in the wind and a least a dozen flashes of lightening in about 10 minutes. It's slowly moving away now but has left everything white and the temperature fell from 8 down to 5c during the storm. One of the best storms I've seen in recent times, helped though by the fact that it was going dark at the time.

I'm in Northants. Can anyone please advise what time it is likely to peak here? Pretty rough (for these parts) at the moment. Is it likely to get worse into the evening, or is this about the peak? Thanks.

John ..there is widespread disruption across the whole of South Wales, trees down, roofs off and plenty of sheds and greenhouses destroyed ..I don't call the whole of South Wales localised, there should have been more warning ..!

I would agree; we have the benefit of knowledge being on weather forums - the general population rely on weather warnings to make any advance preparations, this has not been the case in this instance.

The civic fireworks display is supposed to happen tonight in Bedworth, but they've just let off a firework to check for windsheer and it blew a long way, so I'd say they're going to cancel tonight, they'd be fools to go ahead?

A lot of displays will be getting cancelled tonight if councils have any sense where the wind is strong

getting really scary now, never heard the house shake and rumble like this !!

Its gusting 89mph and a steady 68mph at the Mumbles, I can imagine many houses in South Wales shaking and rumbling at the moment.

We had the same sort of thing the other day at the Needles you know.

Good luck.

^Beat me to it! 89mph at Mumbles! Yes our houses are shaking! My fence looks like a wavelength with the wind blowing against it!

From the NW England Metoffice forecast for tonight....

Strong squally winds too, with severe gales for hills and coasts, and possibly inland across Cheshire

Just had our own fireworks here ( now headed Bradford/Leeds way) Plenty of CC/CG lightning with hail and nasty downdraughts

bloody hell this is ridiculous, getting reports of all major roads affected and side roads impassable due to fallen trees and debris ..I'm sure South Wales will be headline news tomorrow ...#underwarned
